  • Must possess experience facilitating students/parents through the college admission and financial aid.

  • Experience in high school and middle school educational setting, counseling, or academic advising related field.

  • Must have experience in planning educational and/or cultural trips.

  • Experience assessing students’ academic needs.

  • Experience with obstacles similar to those encountered by TRIO -like or students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Experience working with students and families from underrepresented communities.

  • Must have demonstrated computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, and database entry.

  • Must have ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast paced environment.

  • must posses knowledge and experience in academic advising.

  • Experience monitoring progress to accomplishment of objectives and learning outcomes.

  • Must have efficient oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with fiscal grant administration and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in related field.

  • Experience in middle school and high school educational setting, counseling, or academic advising related field.

  • Experience assessing students’ academic needs.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish written and verbal skills.

  • Experience with Federal/State Funded Projects that serve Middle School and High School Students.

  • Experience with fiscal grant administration and implementation.

  • Knowledge and practice pertaining to issues of social justice and working with students from non-traditional backgrounds.

Job Description

IMPORTANT This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding.

Reports to the Director of Talent Search Del Valle at Texas State University. The Talent Search-Del Valle Coordinator promotes educational achievement and the pursuit of post- secondary education enrollment for program participants.

The Coordinator is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of comprehensive services for program participants in the 6th to 12th grades at the programs target schools. Services include but are not limited to educational planning, academic enrichment, college readiness, and career, academic and financial aid advising. The Coordinator is also responsible for recruitment and monitoring progress toward the accomplishment of program objectives.

Target Schools are located in Del Valle, TX

Evening and weekend work will be required.

Employment with Texas State University is contingent upon the outcome of a criminal history background check.

Candidates selected for an interview may be required to make a 15-20 minute presentation.

Job Duties

  • Monitor outcome objectives, assist in preparing annual performance reports and other reports as assigned.

  • Serve as “Person in Charge” ( PIC ) in Program Director’s absence.

  • Assist with monitoring transaction of operating budget, reconciliation of monthly appropriation ledgers and preparation of budget reports monthly or annually as requested by Director.

  • Supervision of general administrative tasks as requested by Director.

  • Assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of program staff, students, interns, student workers, and volunteers.

  • Preparing materials and coordinating aggressive participant recruitment campaign in accordance with US Department of Education Guidelines.

  • Evaluating participant applications to determine eligibility.

  • Make recommendations and conduct participant intake interviews.

  • Evaluate and complete academic and needs assessments on each program participant.

  • Research, develop and implement innovative co-curricular programming for students that fosters personal and academic growth.

  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each program participant and monitor IEP progress throughout the calendar year.

  • Develop and oversee academic tutoring schedule for students to adhere to on a weekly basis. Ensure students effectively utilize tutoring services provided and communicate needs from tutors as appropriate.

  • Oversee the assessment and reporting of participant progress, personal growth, and academic performance.

  • Oversee maintenance of participant files and program-specific documentation to ensure all appropriate services and contacts are entered into the student database; verify promotion, retention, and graduation of all current participants.

  • Provide college admission and financial aid process information.

  • Conduct frequent program evaluations with participants and parents.

  • Propose, plan and review expenses and budget as related to trips, activities, and events.

  • Oversee planning, coordination of and chaperone participants on cultural/educational trips and college visit tours.

  • Ensure that senior participants take appropriate steps toward high school graduation and college enrollment. Follow up on progress year-round and communicate progress to director.

  • Assist Director in hiring, training, and supervision of summer personnel.

  • Coordinate Summer Programming, including orientation, scheduling, supervising, and evaluation of summer staff.

  • Monitor and collect data on graduate participants in accordance grant tracking requirements.

  • Develop and maintain professional outreach networks within target area communities and schools, serving as a liaison and point of contact as needed.

  • Assist with the submission of the U.S. Department of Education Annual Performance Report.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to promote personal and professional growth.
