TEAM BRANDT LLC Environmental Health and Safety Specialist in Aurora, Nebraska
Summary/Objective
Reporting to and assisting the Regional EHS Manager, the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is the site leader responsible for developing and implementing EHandS programs, incorporating an EHandS vision and management system direction for sustainable operations and company growth. This position requires subject matter expertise on EHandS matters related to employee safety, environmental protection, and process safety in an agricultural, chemical manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions
- Assist in giving direction, leadership support, and guidance to ensure conformance to regulatory requirements and reduce liabilities by actively managing EHandS risks, both directly and indirectly.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable company requirements and local, state, and federal laws including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DHS, HAZCOM, LOTO, Lab Safety, DOT, HAZMAT, RCRA.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of new laws, regulations, industry standards and stakeholder requirements.
- Review existing policies, programs, and initiatives to ensure EHandS compliance and develop new policies and procedures, as necessary.
- Ensure required records, permits, and reports are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines by company, local, state, and federal agencies.
- Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices for new and current project/equipment/process changes and develop hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
- Help establish Safety Key Performance Indicators for the facility and develop programs to achieve them.
- Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies as required for onsite audits, regulatory compliance and required corrective action and/or remediation.
- Manages the investigation and assessment of work-related incidents, injuries, illnesses, and near misses. Works with medical providers and workers compensation providers to appropriately manage employee return-to-work programs.
- Manage Ammonia Process Safety Management (PSM) and/or similar programs.
- Lead Emergency Response program and respond to/manage emergency situations in accordance with site emergency response plans.
- Manage and maintain the planning, tracking, and implementation of all EHandS related training.
- Respond to day-to-day employee concerns in an appropriate and timely manner and maintain open channels of communication between production and all other levels of management within the organization.
- Ability to maintain all information confidential within the department.
- Assist Region EHandS manager with EHandS responsibilities at Specialty Ag Formulations Aurora, NE location.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies
- Advanced knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications.

Preferred Qualifications
- Specific experience in chemical fertilizer manufacturing or similar chemical mixing processes and packaging.
- Various certifications and training in medical emergency response.
- Experience with safety tracking software such as Gensuite.
- ASP or CSP certification
- Cal OSHA/ 30 Certification
Required Education and Experience
- BS in Occupational Health and Safety or closely related field, or 5-years related experience in Safety Management, preferably in a chemical and/or fertiliz r manufacturing environment.

``` - Knowledge of Chemical Hazard Classifications. - Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), workers compensation, and state safety regulations. - Familiarity with CFATS, NPDES, RMPs, PSM, and other aspects of working with chemicals of interest and anhydrous ammonia. - Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and EHS online compliance and reporting systems as applicable. - Strong interpersonal, verbal and written, communication skills necessary for working with all levels of employees, other department leadership and external vendors. - Excellent leadership skills, self-motivated to prioritize workload, strong work ethic. - Ability to trouble shoot and resolve issues related to unsafe work conditions. - Ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to build relationships and work well in a team-oriented environment. - Possess a strong desire for training and growth. - Valid Driver License Required.

Work Environment
The EHandS Specialist will work mainly at manufacturing facilities. This position may be working in hot or cold environments depending on the weather. Ability to pass respirator fit test, physically and medically. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, occasionally lift up to 70 lbs., and able to work in a cold, hot, dusty, humid, and noisy chemical manufacturing environment while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). This position may also be required to attend professional office meetings.
Classification/Expected Hours of Employment
This position is a full-time. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, a minimum of 8 hours each day. Schedule may vary based on need during operating hours 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. with additional hours or days required as job duties or seasonal needs arise. Must be flexible to work varied work schedule including occasional weekends. Expected to be on first responder call list for emergencies and security events.
Travel
This position requires travel (drive or fly) with possible overnight travel to other BRANDT locations, conferences, and/or team meetings required throughout the year.
