What You Will Do

Assure the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas, such as nuclear medicine, oncology, cardiology. Serve as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and provide guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership.

  • Ensure control and prevention of antimicrobial resistance, minimization of medication-related adverse events, and reduction of unnecessary financial costs

  • Lead the ASP team with the ID physician.

  • Member of the AMITA Health system Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee (currently under development)

  • Participates in the planning and management of the ASP;

  • Assists in the development of an annual service plan for antimicrobial stewardship, including review of progress to date and strategic goals/targets;

  • Performs drug/ drug class reviews for the System P&T Committee

  • Assists with guideline/ pathway and antimicrobial order form development and implementation;

  • Assists with antimicrobial education initiatives, in collaboration with other members of the ASP team

  • Lead the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship policies/ initiatives as recommended by the ASP.

  • Clinical role in conjunction with other members of the ASP team.

  • Participates in the planning and management of the ASP;

  • Assists in the development of an annual service plan for antimicrobial stewardship, including review of progress to date and strategic goals/targets;

  • Promoting cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients receiving select/targeted antimicrobial therapy.

  • Integration of antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control.

  • Identification of patients for stewardship interventions.

  • Initiation of streamlining or sequential therapy;

  • Dose adjustments due to renal function, hepatic function, or drug-drug interactions;

  • Therapeutic drug monitoring (Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic services);

  • Approval of restricted antimicrobials, in conjunction with the local ASP ID physician;

  • Provision of expert advice on antimicrobial use, to promote the safe, effective and cost-efficient use of antimicrobials;

  • Discuss antimicrobial order changes with ID physician and/or prescriber;

  • Document changes and inform others of those changes

  • Provide education and training to supportive hospital staff on ASP initiatives and antimicrobial therapy.

  • Train other clinical pharmacy specialists and staff pharmacists on their roles/responsibilities to ensure the success of the ASP;

  • Provide in-services to pharmacy, medical, nursing staff;

  • Provide presentations and publications at the local, system, regional and national level

  • Collection and analysis of ASP strategies as well as reporting local progress of ASP goals.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Pharmacist credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.


  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy required.

  • Pharmacy residency preferred.

Additional Preferences


• Extensive experience in Infectious Diseases (including PGY-2 in infectious diseases, BCPID, or comparable experience)
