UCHealth Respiratory Therapist - New Grad Residency Program in Aurora, Colorado

A great opportunity to join our RespiratoryTherapy New Graduate Residency Program at University of CO Hospital withUCHealth! This program is a two year program that includes monthlydidactic lectures, hands-on workshops and bedside training. Eligibleapplicants are new grads with no previous respiratory therapyexperience.

72 hours/pay period, rotating shifts.

Details regarding the new grad RT program:

  • Eligible participants will go through a comprehensiveinterview and screening process.

  • New Hires must receive their RRT certification and BLSand ACLS certifications prior to the cohort start date of July 12,2021.

  • Selected candidates will sign a 2-year contract withUCHealth.

  • Each program participant will be required to activelyparticipate in a hospital or department committee.

  • Preceptors, mentors and STAR council members willassist in the development of a STAR portfolio for Level II status.

  • At the completion of the program, residents willpresent an evidence-based presentation to the program Advisory BoardCommittee and Respiratory Care Leadership Team

  • The first 12 months will include a consistent andcontent rich series of lectures and workshops.

Responsibilities of Respiratory Therapistposition:

  • Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy perplan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition asappropriate.

  • Evaluates respiratory care policies and proceduresbased on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices. Respondsto codes and calls for emergent assistance.

  • Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriatetreatment utilizing appropriate protocols.

  • Educates the patient and family about the patient'sillness and provides information about community resources.

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills,decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriateaction.


  • Minimum Required Education: Graduate of an accredited RespiratoryTherapy program.

  • Required Licensure/Certification: Registered as aRespiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care(NBRC). State licensure if required by law.

  • No previous RT work experience.

  • BLS and ACLS through the American Heart Association orthe American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-handbefore start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty daysof hire.

The pay rate for this position is: $27.61 / hour . An annual bonus may be paid to eligible employees based upon organizational and individual performance.
