Job Summary:

Fitness Duties Include:

  • Creating exercise prescriptions for new participants

  • Conducting one-on-one exercise sessions with participants, in-person and virtual

  • Leading semi-private sessions and group exercise classes for participants

  • Completing necessary calculations and conversions to complete participants' graduation reports

  • Assist Program Manager and Lead Exercise Physiologist with intern training

  • Be available for questions/concerns from interns

  • Observing and conducting assessments with other staff and/or interns

  • Weekly team meetings, research meetings, etc.

  • Attending relevant events to represent clinical programs and the CU AHWC

  • This position may involve some weekend and evening requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enroll new program participants, collecting initial intake paperwork, and conducting initial assessments. Educate potential participants on the details of the study or clinical program through phone contacts.

  • Take thorough medical histories of participants

  • Obtain medical clearances form from appropriate clinicians

  • Maintain files for active and completed participants

  • Assist with monitoring and supervision of regular exercise sessions of study subjects

  • Manage and organize/ file confidential information of study participants

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health-related field

  • At least 6 months of personal/exercise training experience ACSM, ACE, NASM or CSCS personal training certification (certification in progress acceptable as long as completion within 90 days of hire date)

  • Cancer Exercise Specialist Trainer Certification from ACSM within one year

  • CPR/AED/ BLS certified

  • Clinical research or related experience

  • Experience in COMIRB standards and regulations

  • Prior experience as a Research Professional and specific experience with human subject research and regulations

  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)

  • Previous data entry experience for research studies

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

  • Strong skills and knowledge of various Microsoft Windows applications

Join the dynamic BfitBwell team at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (CU AHWC) as an entry-level Research Services Professional/Exercise Specialist. We are searching for two individuals to fill an entry-level position as a part of the BfitBwell Cancer Exercise Program, which engages individuals living with and beyond cancer in individualized exercise programs. You will also contribute to other fitness programs for clinical population at the CU AHWC and be a part of associated research studies. Your role will focus on creating personalized exercise plans, and conducting exercise sessions. Other activities will involve assisting with clinical trials and supporting various outreach initiatives, including telehealth services for rural cancer survivors and group exercise programs for diverse patient populations.

This position is expected to work on the Anshutz Medical Campus in . The BfitBwell Cancer Exercise Program is a nationally known program, delivering a high-quality clinical exercise service to survivors and cancer and conducting NIH-funded research studies of exercise as an intervention for this clinical population. Team members have the unique opportunity to provide personalized exercise to this patient population, with significant 1-1 time with patients. Team members also have the opportunity to work on NIH-funded research investigations and become involved in the research process beyond intervention delivery. Exercise Specialists in the program are given administrative time during their workday to assist with and lead program administrative tasks and improvement efforts. These responsibilities are tailored to each Specialists individual interests.
