Job Description:

§ Detailed Product Knowledge of LV Switchgear products, its function and application. (e.g. MCB, Fuses, RCDs, DBs & relevant products.)

§ Knowledge of IS & IEC standards for electrical switchgear & mechanical assemblies e.g. IEC 60898, IEC 60947.

§ New Product Development: Leading team in developing new products, brainstorming and creating ideas for new products as per requirements from product management. Guide the team in making concept design, patent infringement review & new patent application, product simulations using finite element techniques, develop working prototype, conduct operational and type test, finalize design, estimate product cost and development time plan to facilitate decision on product delivery. (3D models, drawings, BOM, SAP, documentation)

§ Budget: Plan & monitor yearly budget of the department. Including local & global activities. Align this with management & different segments. Prepare inputs for years contracts (e.g. IDC, SLAs). Resource planning with demand.

§ Design to Cost: Identify projects for cost reduction of existing products. Plan time & budget, Co-ordinate & implement DTC measures on products and its accessories to achieve PUMA - MCP target. Track plan vs actual.

§ Continuous improvement of product design: Guide team on activities based on customer feedback/complaints, changing market requirement, competition, product upgradation, variant addition, production/material changes and process requirements and plan to implement appropriate action to improve product design.

  • Certifications: Responsible for first time certifications of products. This includes national & international certifications like ISI, UL, VDE, INMETRO etc. Co-ordinate with different Siemens and external partners (Test Labs & Certifying agencies) for the same. Support in routine certification activities as necessary.

  • Product Documentation: Guide team to generate & maintain all technical data & product performance data as required in documents like catalogues, data sheets, certificates.

  • Local test lab: Plan & execute lab upgradation/investment with Test Lab in-charge as necessary w.r.t. product roadmap. Alignment of testing activities & planning. Define processes, review & implement activities for EHS/OSHAS.

  • Sustainability: Identify and implement measures for sustainability / environmental topics related to products.

  • Handling of internal & external ISO audit. (Documentation, processes)

  • Predevelopment activities: To explore new opportunities of products/improvements.

Team Management & Collaboration:

  • Lead team of about 10 members (mix of electrical & mechanical developers).

  • Define roles and responsibilities, Set clear objectives for Dept e.g. KPIs & Team members. Communicate expectations, goals/targets and feedback to the group regularly and resolve any concerns or issues actively.

  • Ability to demonstrate resilience in demanding situations.

  • Provide timely feedback and encourage professional development of team & competency building as per product roadmap. Support team members’ professional development by providing opportunities for training and growth.

  • Adapt to make strategic decisions to ensure business success.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. Stakeholder management: PRM (Product management), BD, Quality, Manufacturing, Customers, Suppliers etc…

  • International exposure: Germany, China, Brazil, Argentina etc..

  • Identify and address conflicts early, facilitating discussions and finding satisfactory solutions.

Must requirements:

§ 15-20 years’ experience of working in R&D of switchgear products with hands-on experience of new product development

§ Experience in development & qualification of L.V. switchgear products like MCBs

§ Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Sound knowledge of physics & FE simulations e.g. Structural, Electro-thermal, electro-magnetic, motion etc..

§ Trained in project management e.g. PMBOK® Guide.

§ Candidate must have professional English written/verbal/interpersonal communication skills.
