OVERVIEW:

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (MaineIT) Network Services Office provides information technology support to over 22,000 employees. MaineIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.

    ABOUT THE JOB DETAILS:

    The Office of Information Technology is seeking an Information Systems Support Specialist professional who is proficient in Cisco LAN/WAN technologies within a large enterprise network. The selected individual will join as a contributing team member with other highly qualified IT Cisco and network experts and will assist in engineering, installing, and maintaining enterprise level Cisco networks.

    TECHNICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Has full understanding of network standards such as TCP/IP for networks

  • Troubleshooting and installing network equipment and cabling to support LAN, MAN, WAN topologies.

  • Implement the installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of networking systems and equipment.

  • Overseeing network performance through monitoring through Cisco Stealthwatch, DNA Center and Solarwind’s Orion software.

  • Handle work such as generating, installing, enhancing, diagnosing, correcting, and maintaining network operations and related systems software for an enterprise-level network.

  • Interfacing with customers via ticketing systems, email and voice calls

    To be successful the selected candidate, you must be trained and experienced in Cisco routing, switching and management systems, be able to solve network issues, provide sound judgement and analysis, and offer viable solutions. This role requires an understand of networking performance management/capacity planning, hardware and software configurations, integrations, and all facets of implementation.

    Work is performed under supervision. This position is in Augusta, ME. The Network Services Group requires 24x7 hardware support. This requires the position to be on-call in a rotation format.

    WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Perform a full range of system administration functions in order to acquire, configure, install, and monitor switches and routers and other data communication software and hardware.

  • Resolve complex network problems, develops complex reports and provides fixes to current network slowness or crashes.

  • Follow configuration standards, documentation of network devices, including servicing and upgrading of equipment.

  • Performs fault isolation and repairs in a complex computing/networking environment independently or in consultation with vendor or other technical personnel in order to diagnose and correct system problems.

  • Analyzes network traffic flows to identify potential bottlenecks to improve level of service to end users.

  • Understanding of customer relationship best practices.

  • Demonstrate desire to exercise accountability in a professional manner.

  • Demonstrate ability to respond in a timely and effective manner.

  • Understand empathy and how to exercise it with a variety of personalities.

  • Understand emotional intelligence principles.

    WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

    We need a candidate who can deliver and contribute as a positive team player, a person who understands system associated security risks, and can make decisions to effectively improve work performance levels. We need a person willing to develop themselves and contribute to the development of others and who will take the extra steps to make sure quality work is delivered, on time and every time.

    Preference will be given to candidates who are able to lift gear into place in the field, climb ladders and drive a State vehicle. Candidateds will need to lift up to 40lbs, climb ladders and must have a valid State of Maine driver's license.

The selected candidate will be required to pass the required background checks (fingerprinting may be required) as a condition of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A four (4) year combination of higher level programming and or systems analysis and design experience. A Masters Degree from an accredited educational institution in Computer Science may be substituted for two (2) years of programming experience.
