Maxim Healthcare Staffing Clinical Data Analyst - Maine DHHS in Augusta, Maine
Maxim Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Clinical Data Analyst (Quality Specialist) to assess and analyze complex patient care information from abstracted data contained in medical records using specific criteria to determine severity of identified deficiencies; develops reports and provides feedback for process improvement.
The purpose of this limited-period Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) Quality Specialist position at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is to work closely with OADS Data Analyst to further develop and create an on-going maintenance plan for the LTSS dashboard for Section 19 waiver performance and quality tracking. The Quality Specialist will work alongside the LTSS management team to streamline the Departments ability to access consistent and reliable data for HCBS waiver reporting requirements as the Department begins work toward strengthening Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) infrastructure across the state. Additionally, this position will support the LTSS unit in updating the HCBS waiver Quality Management Plan.
HCBS provides critical supports and services to thousands of older adults and individuals with disabilities in Maine, enabling them to live in their homes and communities, rather than in nursing homes and other institutions.
The Quality Specialist will interface with many members of the LTSS team as well as external partners to update and streamline existing dashboards. The Quality Specialist will be expected to maintain working relationships with LTSS program staff, contracted entities, and stakeholders. The Quality Specialist will report to the LTSS Community Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in education, training, and/or experience analyzing, evaluating, and/or developing improvements to organizational and/or managerial systems, programs, and practices
Preferred Candidates will also have:
Experience with Tableau
Experience with Sequel SQL
Experience with Excel, Access Etc.

Preferred Candidates will possess:
Knowledge of basic state and federal laws around Home and Community Based Services (HCBS).
knowledge of the principles and methods of continuous quality improvement.
knowledge of preparing and participating in quality reviews that lead to the identification of issues, development of remediation activities and monitoring for desired outcomes.
Experience with collaborating to develop and revise quality improvement policies and practices.
Ability to write and communicate effectively. Describe your experience with written communication and/or presentations.
Pay Rate $30 / hour
Please note that this pay range represents a good faith estimate of the compensation that will be offered for this position based on the circumstances. The actual pay offered to a successful candidate will take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and other variable factors.
This is a full time Monday-Friday benefits eligible position, including 10 days of accrued PTO and 13 paid holidays. Fully remote.
Contract term is two years recurring
Responsibilities:
Reviews, extracts, compiles and analyzes patient care/services data from various sources including medical records, financial records, and coding records
Creates processes and prepares reports of findings and/or recommendations for requested and standard reports
Abstracts data utilizing predetermined criteria
Develops mechanisms for approval and distribution of reports and studies
Receives reports and study requests and reviews and prioritizes
Reviews reports and studies data validity and completeness
Develops and maintains report archive
Identifies data sources for use in preparations of reports and studies
Assists with program activities to meet hospital accreditation standards as applicable
Assists with performance improvement activities to improve patient care
Assists with facilitating interdepartmental performance improvement activities as applicable
Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality improvement programs/initiatives
Participates in a variety of department educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with supervisors
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
Three (3) years of coding, clinical, health information management and/or data abstracting experience preferred
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
