About the role

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer - Hydropower to join our winning water infrastructure team based in Stantec’s vibrant Auckland office.

This is an exciting and varied role where you will work on a broad spectrum of electrical and control aspects of hydropower & dam projects across Asia Pacific region that may include planning and studies, new & retrofit installations, upgrades to existing systems-including transmission and distribution, testing, commissioning, and optimization.

As an Electrical Engineer - Hydropower, you will:

  • Provide high quality electrical and control system engineering input to projects, largely in the hydropower and dams sector but in other electrical and control system projects as required.

  • Support the delivery of projects through client liaison, logistical arrangements, project management and budgeting support.

  • Undertake site visits, including field measurement and monitoring work.

  • Prepare technical reports and drawings, and contribute to proposals and other marketing documents as required.

  • Provide on site construction and commissioning support.

  • Work beside our globally-recognised hydropower team delivering local and international projects.

About you

You are a motivated and driven Electrical/Control System Engineer with experience in the hydropower and dams sector preferably, or wider power generation or industrial sectors.

You possess strong work ethics, and an appetite for learning & upskilling in your technical abilities.

Other attributes that may help you succeed in the role:

  • Washington Accord Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • CPEng certification or willingness to work towards CPEng

  • 4 years working as an Electrical / Control System Design Engineer in hydropower & dams or wider power generation or industrial sectors.

  • Willingness to travel within NZ and offshore, when required.

  • Working knowledge and experience in producing HV power distribution designs for complex large scale projects

  • Strong knowledge of NZ & Australia codes and standards

  • Project management experience desirable
