Job Overview


Mopar Technical Service Operations (TSO) – ECU Flash Operations Team is seeking a Technical Engineering Lead for ECU Reprogramming/Diagnostic Systems. The candidate for this position will be responsible for managing flash application development, flash validation testing and ensuring ECU compliance of flash reprogramming protocols. The candidate must be able to read CAN bus logs to quickly identify a flash failure and complete an issue analysis/resolution report. The Technical Engineering Lead will also be responsible for managing the development and validation of Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) software and support utilities used with Stellantis Diagnostic Applications. Some job responsibilities include but are not limited to research, planning, implementation, component testing, unit testing and support of Stellantis vehicle diagnostic applications. The candidate will also be responsible for new software development in support of new diagnostic protocols and flash processes as well as compliance to J2534 communication protocol requirements. The Technical Lead must be able to analyze application and vehicle communication logs in order to root cause software issues and work with Stellantis suppliers and internal development team to quickly resolve any issues impacting the field and/or engineering development in a timely manner.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or Computer Science & Engineering or Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Minimum of 6 years of automotive diagnostic experience

  • Knowledgeable with CAN, CAN-FD, J1850, K-Line and other automotive communication bus systems

  • Knowledgeable in CAN / CAN-FD communication protocol and bus logging / reading

  • Knowledgeable in general ECU flash reprogramming requirements

  • Organizational skills and ability to manage priorities

  • Ability to effectively operate both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced work environment with minimal direction

  • Highly self-motivated and passionate about automotive, vehicle diagnostics and technologies

  • Think logically and quickly analyze complex issues efficiently in pursuit of a resolution

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Computer proficient (including spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database applications)

  • Create simulations and software test models

  • Read electrical schematics and electrical pinouts

  • Manage and work under pressure/stress

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize projects and goals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Computer Engineering or Computer Science & Engineering or Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Minimum of 8 years of automotive diagnostics experience

  • Strong knowledge of all vehicle communication diagnostic protocols (ISO 13400 / ISO 15765 / ISO 11898 / ISO 9141 / ISO 14230 / SAE J2610 / SAE J2534 / SAE J1850 / SAE J2190 / CCD)

  • Ability to read, analyze, and root cause issues from logs including but not limited to vehicle communication bus logs, VCI device logs, J2534 device logs, flash logs, and application/client logs

  • Strong knowledge of Stellantis diagnostic applications (wiTECH 2.0, wiTECH 1.0, wiTECHPlus, CDA, mCDA, Examiner & Examiner Emulator, EDI, StarSCAN, DRB III & Enhanced DRB III Emulator, Chrysler J2534 Flash Application)

  • Strong knowledge of Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) devices, Pass-Thru J2534 devices, Vector devices, and other vehicle diagnostic tools

  • Strong knowledge of Stellantis vehicle architectures (Powernet, CUSW, Atlantis Mid, Atlantis High, etc)

  • Strong knowledge of Stellantis flash protocols and diagnostic specifications such as KWP2000, UDS, Fiat-UDS, +1 and +2 specifications, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of Stellantis cyber security and SGW requirements and Authenticated Diagnostics / Firmware / Bootloader

  • Strong knowledge of EFD builder functions and different aspects of the application

  • Experience with automated testing and set-up of test scripts

  • Knowledge on Vector CANAlyzer and basic CAPL scripting

  • Strong knowledge of SQL, Queries, and Databases

  • Strong knowledge of ECU reprogramming, analyzing, and root causing issues

  • High testing, validation, and technical troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work with the Help Desk to root cause and provide solutions to Stellantis dealerships

  • Create simulations and software test models

  • Work and build relationships with suppliers and business colleagues

  • Present to large audiences and answer any general or technical questions about areas of expertise, Equipment Technical Institute (ETI) events and SAE J2534

  • Attend and present to Committee meetings

  • Ability to represent Stellantis in the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) for J2534 aftermarket services

  • Familiar with Secure Shell Connection (SSH) and encryptions such as RSA, DSA, MD5…etc.

  • Basic knowledge of computer languages (C/C++/Python)

  • Familiar with Linux/Linux Commands

  • Demonstrated courage to make tough calls with or without management

  • Ability to manage and lead projects

  • Experience in the aftermarket area
