Utility Construction Operator

Hours:Full-Time

Reports To:Construction Crew Leader

Starting Pay:$20.00 (depending on qualifications)

Additional pay for water licenses. Mustang SUD pays for certification courses and testing if you do not have a water license.

  • Mustang Special Utility District pays for all the courses and testing necessary for the employee to complete the certification.
  • In addition to paying for the employee to attain the license, a Class D water license will earn the employee a $160 pay increase per pay period.
  • In addition to paying for the employee to attain the license, they will receive an additional $160 pay increase per pay period for a Class C Water License.

Regular Work Hours and Location:

Typically, work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am4:30 pm, although they may vary from time to time.

Position Function: Under the general direction of the Crew Chief, the Construction Operator performs duties as assigned. The Construction Operator is not in a supervisory role and reports to the assigned Crew Chief.

Description:

Under the general direction of the Construction Crew Leader, the Utility Construction Operator performs duties as assigned. The Utility Construction Operator is not in a supervisory role and reports to the assigned Construction Crew Leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repairs and improves District infrastructure.
  • Installs water pipes, service lines, valves, meters, and fire hydrants.
  • Flushes water mains for water quality or repairs.
  • Collects water samples.
  • Occasionally operates heavy equipment.
  • Reads and records data from various equipment.
  • Hauls heavy equipment to and from job sites.
  • Lifts up to 100 pounds. Sit, stand, twist, bend, stoop, or kneel for extended periods while completing tasks.
  • It works inside and outside in inclement weather, including, but not limited to, Heat, Cold, Rain, or Snow.
  • Climb and descend ladders.
  • Clean work areas, trucks, and facilities.
  • Inventory truck and stock with parts/tools as needed.

Other Important Duties:

  • May be subject to work outside normal business hours.
  • May occasionally be required to be on-call, work weekends, and evenings/nights.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Willingness to grow and learn with Mustang.
  • General knowledge of basic construction hand tools.
  • Follow written and oral communication.
  • Communicate via phone, text, email, or radio.
  • Be able to read, write, and do some math.

Education Experience and Requirements:

High School GED or Diploma. Valid Texas Driving Record with acceptable driving record. Must obtain Commercial Drivers License within 1 year of employment. Must obtain Class D Water license issued by the TCEQ within 1 year of hire date. Must obtain Class C Water License, either Groundwater or Distribution within 4 years or before the D Water license expires.

NOTE D water license is only valid for 3 years without the option to renew.

Employer-Provided Training:

Mustang will pay/ provide all classes needed to obtain the necessary licenses and all testing fees.

TCE D Water License Requirements:

  • Basic Water Operations Class
  • Application approval from the TCEQ (Background check, class verification)
  • No hands-on experience is needed.

TCEQ C Water License Requirements:

  • Basic Water Operations Class
  • Groundwater Operations or Water Distribution Class
  • 1 Elective course approved by the TCEQ.
  • 2 years Hands On Experience (May substitute college credit or additional classes for 1-year experience, TCEQ approval needed).
  • Application approval from the TCEQ (Background check, class verification, experience verification).

Conditions Of Employment:

  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
  • Preferred valid Class A CDL.
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
