PulteGroup VP Enterprise Architecture in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Summary:

The VP of Enterprise Architecture will be responsible for driving the overall application technical strategy and architecture of cloud services across Azure as well as leading enterprise platforms, modernizing software development and product delivery through rapid innovation, continuous integration, and delivery. In addition to driving broad strategic direction, this individual will provide technical leadership, manage the architecture team, mentor, and support other architect/engineers, do troubleshooting, and engage in the development lifecycle.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Direct, develop and coordinate cloud architecture and implementation across diverse areas including application development, identity and access management, network, and data management, monitoring and alerting.

  • Lead design of cloud technologies by partnering with application and infrastructure teams, collaborate with other IT architectural/application domains across affiliates to develop cohesive roadmaps and designs.

    Technology Assessment, Design & Implementation

  • Evaluate existing environment, research, and make recommendations for future technology decisions, prioritization, technology modernization, assessment of cloud readiness and migration strategy.

  • Analysis, design, and implementation of application cloud strategy to enable a flexible, secure and highly available environment.

  • Provide best practices for cloud system design, infrastructure integrations, secure application development practices and production infrastructure patterns through regular architecture reviews.

  • Evaluate emerging domain-specific technologies and recommend those that will increase performance, reliability, flexibility, and optimizations for pay as you go operational vs. capital expenses.

  • Identify risks associated with cloud computing services and a risk mitigation plan for coping with and overcoming such risks.

  • Establish governance that allows cloud services to be consumed in an agile fashion to meet immediate business needs within budget.

  • Define principles that guide technology decisions and the relationship between enterprise business context (industry and market trends) and specified technology. Establish Build vs. Buy criteria for new software.

  • Design and implement continuous integration and continuous delivery processes, fostering a culture of continuous process improvement.

  • Lead and architect solutions that deliver business value by enabling rapid innovation through modern software development and delivery, create proof-of-concepts (POC) as needed, including POC’s of cloud products.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor architects throughout the organization.

  • Recruits, selects, coaches, onboards, encourages growth and develops team members.

  • Conducts performance and development reviews per HR guidelines. Takes corrective actions, including performance improvement plans and terminations, when necessary.

  • Foster a healthy, collaborative culture by partnering with teams across the organization and affiliates.

Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage ongoing relationship with Microsoft account team including ensuring understanding of Azure roadmap, providing MS team necessary feedback on desired functionality, and handling necessary escalations.

Management Responsibilities

  • Utilizes recruiting and selection tools/processes to build organizational talent

  • Delegates work according to employee’s abilities and skills

  • Evaluates employee’s performance and plans for compensation actions in accordance with that performance

Required Education/Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent

  • Minimum 10+ years of information technology experience and leadership

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with designing cloud implementations, cloud technologies, implementing strategic roadmaps and migration from on-prem applications/solutions to the cloud

  • Extensive experience as an Enterprise Architect, architecting highly available and scalable systems, with deep expertise in solution architecture including web services, front-end and back-end technologies across of range of digital solutions and environments (mobile, web, omni-channel solutions, other new emerging technologies).

  • Experience with enterprise software development techniques such as SOA/EDA based design, microservices architectures using Web API, queue-based processing using messaging technologies, designing, and building applications using container and serverless technologies.

  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration, and automated deployments.

  • Extensive hands-on experience with creating websites, applications, and message queues (Angular, Javascript, SPA frameworks, VueJS, ASP.NET Core, C# .NET, WCF, GraphQL, MSMQ, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, etc).

  • Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases (SQL, MongoDB, Azure CosmosDB, etc).

  • Experience with scalable architectures using Azure App Service, API management, automation, container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker), cloud-scale messaging, streaming or data storage systems.

  • Experience leading and managing a team of architects, engineers and technologists in large scale enterprise software implementations and cloud migration.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient with data structuring languages, including XML, JSON and design of binary data formats.

  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (Azure preferred), application and infrastructure best practices and design.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with adjacent technology areas including security, identity and access management, network, and monitoring. Excellent presentation (C level) and communication skills (written and oral), ability to work out differences of opinions and produce scalable and quality system designs.
