Description

The Laney Graduate School is looking for a highly motivated Financial Analyst with strong analytical skills and a growth mindset. A quick learner and team player that is self-driven with the willingness to go above and beyond to ensure outstanding service to graduate school students, partners and leaders while ensuring the basics of the day-to-day job responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and understand Laney Graduate School student funding structures.

  • Manage and monitor Laney Graduate School student funding

  • Gather and submit funding source information for both scholarship and stipend support

  • Assists in coordinating, providing input for, monitoring and improving human resources and business operational activitiesinterface with graduation program faculty, staff, RAS units, and students to execute funding packages, and ensure external awards are allocated according to budget

  • Coordinate major financial reporting and budgeting activities.

  • Ensures compliance with regulations and reporting requirements

  • Organize and save student funding files (information, workbooks, and backups) to appropriate folders.

  • Create and update summary and databases for student funding

  • May maintain grant agreements, policies and guidelines, and coordinate grant reporting requirements

  • Directs logistical and clerical support activities, and coordinates specific data collection efforts and special projects

  • Familiar with reports and queries in different systems, prepare both operational and statistical reports for management and other related parties

  • Understand student funding expense and budgets

  • Assist with fiscal financial closing and annual budgeting

  • Assist with ad hoc projects for finance and business operations that require effective communication with financial and non-financial audiences.

  • Ensure accuracy, resolve funding issues, and maintain proper accounting controls and procedures per university, sponsor, and internal policies and guidelines

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on internal financial systems, processes, and reports

  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and automation; Assist to make and implement recommendations to optimize financial outcomes and operations

  • Collaborate across teams, while supporting necessary changes and proactively leading new initiatives and process changes

  • Coordinates action necessary to correct account balances and maintain proper accounting controls and procedures

  • Prepare and submit financial impacted entries to ensure student’s support and expenses are charged to the correct funding sources.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

  • Performs routine and complex accounting activities requiring knowledge of systems, independent judgment and ability to respond accordingly.

  • Oversees activity on various accounts.

  • Analyzes past and current data and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts.

  • Assists with audits.

  • Designs and generates routine ad hoc reports and graphs.

  • May maintain grants and assist with budgets.

  • Coordinates computer operations.

  • Conceptualizes projects and follows through.

  • May provide direction to less experienced staff concerning accounting issues.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and one year of professional accounting experience OR equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grant experience in the higher education space is preferred.

  • Degree in analytical discipline, accounting or finance.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and ability to quickly grasp new Financial Reporting & Planning systems.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
