Home Depot SR TECHNICAL WRITER in Atlanta, Georgia
Position Purpose:
The Senior Technical Writer will communicate with various business units within The Home Depot including all Supply Chain platforms in the planning, development, and writing of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for The Company. The Senior Technical Writer must be able to manage multiple projects and gain internal cooperation across functional groups to achieve completion of SOP projects against aggressive schedules. This role will act as a strategic thought partner including the development and maintenance of SOPs. Operates with minimal supervision and once given general assignments, prioritizes and executes tasks. Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, able to support and lead multiple projects, possess excellent communication skills, work well with a team, interact with multiple levels and functions within the Supply Chain organization, and able to manage business relationships. This person must continually seek out opportunities to learn new and hone existing technical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
50% Supervise, edit, and manage the technical writing of business partners in the production of new and revised SOPs: Subject matter expert in the process of creating format, layout, and number system for SOPs. SOP writing management including meeting timelines, acquiring proper approvals and adjusting content.
25% Review of SOPs: Responsible for proactive reviews of SOP material to ensure current processes for all operational areas of the company are reflected, and to partner to make any/all necessary changes.
10% Manage translation process for SOPs: Research archives to assist in legal discovery, use documentation content management system to design, create and maintain the SOP site and links on the Company intranet to the standards and for maximum effect.
10% Understand the working operations of all platforms types in the Supply Chain system: Continuously update knowledge of these areas by participating in all available training, visiting sites, and working with Manager.
5% Reporting: Compile weekly reporting presentations for business partners.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
This position reports to the Sr. Manager.
This position has will oversee other contract or THD technical writers.
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
BA/BS Degree preferred
Supply Chain / Distribution experience preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Working knowledge of presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint)
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams
Demonstrated project management skills
Ability to negotiate, handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances with both internal and external customers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Adobe FrameMaker & Acrobat
Proficient in MS SharePoint
Excellent written, verbal, listening and presentation skills
Process Improvement Experience

Minimum Education:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
