MEAG Power Sr. Substation Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

Position Title: Senior Substation Engineer

Department: Transmission

Reports to: Supervisor of Substation Engineering

Location: Atlanta, GA (*On-site)

  • Incumbent must work in office in Atlanta four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week with manager approval

    Summary

    Under minimal supervision, is responsible for the design and project engineering of substation projects for which MEAG Power has assumed responsibility.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    • Provide engineering for substation projects. Work with designer/drafters to develop drawing sets and other documentation required for implementation of various substation projects. This position will be responsible for the development of the physical and control design packages.

    • Write specifications and review approval drawings for materials and equipment to be purchased. Evaluates vendor qualifications and bids; make purchase recommendations for major substation equipment and materials.

    • Evaluates engineering contractor qualifications and bids; makes recommendations for the contracting of engineering services for substation projects. Prepares and administers contracts for engineering and construction projects.

    • Help maintain a complete set of up-to-date MEAG Power design standards and procedures.

    • Maintain a working knowledge of industry accepted substation design practices, establish communications and maintain rapport with Participants, Protection and Controls, Operations and Maintenance, Engineering Technical Services, and other ITS members to ensure the safe and reliable operation of MEAG Power substations.

    • As necessary, periodically represent MEAG Power and/or department in various meetings and committee meetings.

    • Provide cost estimates to planning for the budgeting of proposed capital projects.

    • Assume similar and related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Generally requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university

    • 7-10 years of demonstrated related experience in the electric utility industry. A combination of education and related experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

    • A professional engineer license is desired.

    • Excellent communication skills and responsiveness

    • Keen attention to detail

    • Ability to multi-task
