A joint venture between Jacobs and H. J. Russell & Company was selected to support the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) as it embarks on its expansion program. The position will be hired through the Joint Venture, JRMT Program.

Summary of Position:

We're looking for a Specification Writer solely responsible for writing, editing, reviewing construction specifications, and assisting others in preparing specifications. The specification writer maintains and updates documents in the procurement and contracting portion of the project manual as required by the MARTA Legal and Contracts and Procurement Groups. The specification writer also updates the MARTA Guide Specifications (MGS) sections and Project Manual Administrative Procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and coordinates specification edits prepared by engineers and architects for accuracy, product information, and proper product applications.

  • Researches, obtains and maintains information necessary for specification preparation.

  • Develops and maintains specifications documents under the format and organization developed by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).

  • May oversee activities of Specifications Technical Specialist

  • Updates and maintains documents in the procurement and contracting portion of the project manual as required

  • Updates and maintains documents in the procurement and contracting portion of the project

  • Manages, develops, and implements MARTA Guide Specifications. Maintains and updates MARTA Guide Specifications. Creates new technical specification sections for MARTA projects when required

Here’s what you’ll need :

*Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering.

*Thorough knowledge of construction and rehabilitation materials, products, and systems is required, along with knowledge of specification guidelines under the Construction Specifications Institutes Manual, and CSI certification is preferred.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

*A minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in developing and preparing Architectural and Engineering specifications for large-scale construction projects

*Rail transit experience preferred, along with proficient knowledge of various PC applications
