The Software Asset Management (SAM) Engineer is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of software assets and license compliance position, and to provide governance for compliance for licensed software for both client and server based products with internal policies, controls, and third party contracts. This includes planning, acquiring, deployment, management, and retirement of software assets. The scope includes the entire enterprise and processes necessary for the effective management, control, and protection of the software. The Software Asset Manager will also be responsible for periodic audits (internal and external).

In this role, the SAM Engineer will have hands-on involvement in the design, building, and maintenance of SAM data and processes within our tool (ServiceNow SAM Pro). The individual will partner with CVS Health Finance, Tax, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Compliance, Global Security, Technology Portfolio Management, IT Renewals and Purchasing Operations, IT Infrastructure and Software Product Stakeholder teams to reconcile software deployments of license and maintenance entitlements, and ensure all accounting, regulatory, corporate and legal requirements are met and followed for IT software assets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of software entitlements and deployments needed to continuously monitor license compliance position

  • Maintain contractual compliance for both license count and allowed deployment/use in order to manage the risk associated with external supplier audits that can result in fines and penalties

  • Lead complex audits from internal and external agencies related to IT Asset Management and delivery of required resolutions to aligned plan.

  • Managing key relationships with peer roles within the enterprise. This includes Software Product Stakeholders, Technology Portfolio Managers, and Procurement representatives.

  • Review new software requests to ensure license availability.

  • Ensuring quality of software asset records within the Software Asset Management repository, including Software Discovery Models, Software Product Models and Software Entitlements.

  • Track, reconcile, and monitor software inventory and utilization, harvest licenses where applicable.

  • Resolving unmatched or partially normalized Software Discovery Models.

  • Researching licensing models, product use rights, as well as licensing metrics and entitlements for vendor published software assets.

  • Work with internal teams to streamline and automate request process, procurement, and deployment of software.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, cost avoidance, software reuse, and software consolidation.

  • Analyze purchase records and other entitlement information including contracts.

  • Periodically validate the IT asset repository data accuracy and investigate discrepancies.

  • Create and update software license entitlements agreements, models, and catalog information as well as reconciling software normalization.

  • Validate software discovery inventory and license compliance related reports.

  • Aid in the monitoring of controls in the process by which software assets are requested, purchased, and delivered to the end user.

  • Collecting data and reporting on the effectiveness of the software asset management processes.

  • Identifying requirements to modify SAM processes.

  • Participating in the remediation of non-compliant software installations.

  • Determining if available entitlements can be allocated prior to initiating procurement activities.

  • Analyzing software asset data and creating reports.

  • Analyzing reconciliation reports to determine required actions to address non-compliant software installations.

  • Executing reconciliation by comparing entitlements with discovered software installations to determine effective license positions for each in-scope publisher.

  • Working with Software Asset Management team to publish authorized software in AppStore for end-user request and subsequent fulfilment.

  • Analyzing software usage reports and establishing removal rules for infrequently used software.

  • Document and maintain the policies, processes, user guides, job aids required for an effective SW asset program

  • Providing requirements, use cases, user stories, etc. to support new or improving SAM functionality.

Required Qualifications

  • Expert in day-to-day business operations using ServiceNow Software Asset Management Professional Vancouver or later including, but not limited to:

  • Hands on end-to-end management of software within ServiceNow SAM Pro

  • Uploading and configuring entitlements; Software suites, inference percentage, downgrade rights, etc.

  • Review and management of software discovery models

  • Understanding of Software pattern normalization rules

  • Discovery map and software model configuration

  • Management of SAM Pro publisher packs for server and client software.

  • Software lifecycle management

  • Software reclamation rules

  • Experience in software asset management including, but not limited to:

  • Expert knowledge of tier 1 software publisher software licensing requirements and metrics (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, VMware)

  • Expert knowledge of tier 1 software publisher software contracts terms and conditions

  • Strong knowledge of common IT asset management cost savings and risk mitigation strategies

  • Interpreting license contracts end user license agreements, terms and conditions.

  • Software normalization

  • Software entitlements, including license types and license metrics.

  • Software discovery

  • Familiarity with software contracts

  • License true ups

  • IT software lifecycle processes, procurement, discovery, management, reclamation and retirement.

  • Proven ability to identify and drive cost savings and risk mitigation opportunities.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to both create material & present to various audiences - from team level to senior leadership.

  • Strong communicator via all media: collaboration technologies (SharePoint, Teams, etc.) and presentations written, emails, verbal – with a wide variety of audiences to communicate the importance and benefits of SAM to all stakeholders.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving skills, including the ability to accumulate, organize, and assimilate large amounts of information.

  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and collaborate with employees and management at all levels.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience with ServiceNow Contract Management Module Vancouver or greater

  • Experience with ServiceNow software request and Procurement Vancouver or greater

  • Experience in software asset management including, but not limited to:

  • Expert knowledge of tier 1 software publisher software licensing requirements and metrics (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, VMware)

  • Expert knowledge of tier 1 software publisher software contracts terms and conditions

  • Strong knowledge of common IT asset management cost savings and risk mitigation strategies

  • Interpreting license contracts end user license agreements, terms and conditions.

  • Software normalization

  • Software entitlements, including license types and license metrics.

  • Software discovery

  • Familiarity with software contracts

  • License true ups

  • IT software lifecycle processes, procurement, discovery, management, reclamation and retirement.

  • Experience in hardware configurations and software installation processes.

  • Experience with Discovery Tools (ServiceNow Discovery, SCCM, InTune, JAMF, Tanium, ILMT).

  • Experience working in an Agile environment.

  • Experience in a large organization with a remote workforce, preferred.

  • Experience working in highly regulated industries (i.e., healthcare or financial services), preferred.

  • Ability to adapt to dynamic organizational changes.

  • Proven organizational and time-management skills, including prioritizing multiple tasks.

  • Experience with agile development required SAFe Agile experience preferred.

Preferred Certifications

  • ServiceNow Certification for SAM Professional (Certified Implementation Specialist - Software Asset Management)

  • IAITAM Certification, such as, CSAM, CITAM, and CHAMP.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$92,700.00 - $201,900.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
