Senior Associate – Clinical Research Epidemiologist

Location is flexible within the US and can be a telecommuter. Ideally location is in Atlanta, GA.


Abt Associates seeks a Senior Associate with a history of leading clinical research projects. This position would serve as Project Director on mid to large multi-site epidemiological studies and guide the design, implementation and oversight of all components of the project research. The candidate will enjoy working in a team environment, participating in, and leading major projects, directing proposal efforts, and building and maintaining relationships with clients. They will maintain excellent relationships with federal agencies, particularly the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Abt partners and consultants. The candidate will have demonstrated capability of presenting and speaking at professional meetings and supporting development and publication of research findings.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to design and implement multi-site clinical research studies.

  • Guide and lead the preparation and review of project reports and findings and peer reviewed manuscripts.

  • Review work and provide technical guidance to less senior staff.

  • Serve as a resource capable of applying advanced epidemiological techniques, concepts, and methods related to research studies.

  • Oversee operations of one or more clinical research studies, including managing teams of staff and monitoring project timelines and financials.

  • Participate with other senior staff in domestic business development activities by obtaining additional work from existing clients and by identifying new opportunities.

  • Maintain an industry presence as a subject-matter expert by presenting and publishing.

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

  • Experience in directing mid to large scale multi-site clinical research studies.

  • Significant experience in project and program development and client relationship management and proven track record of project leadership.

  • Experience working with CDC.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in epidemiology with 10+ years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience. In cases of internal promotion, an exception may be made to the minimum requirements based on company needs and the proven ability of the incumbent to perform the key roles and responsibilities of this position.
