Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine is seeing a Postdoctoral Fellow interested in working in a team environment with the support and supervision from Principle Investigator Dr Veena N. Rao at Morehouse School of Medicine. This position will provide support for Dr Rao’s area of research focusing on BRCA1 associated cancers discovery to personalized medicine and cancer health disparities.

The postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Rao will carry out biomedical research experiments, laboratory procedures in basic cancer research following established protocols complying with policies; assists with research projects; performs routine laboratory and equipment maintenance; prepares all solutions/reagents for laboratory procedures; compiles, processes to analyze and interpret data; assist in other lab duties as required by the lab priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D./MS in biomedical field from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in lab research.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques

  • Ability to research and provide reports of related studies and findings.

  • Skilled in both oral and written communication

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in operating the laboratory equipment, such as Flow Cytometer, real-time PCR machine, and confocal microscopy is preferred.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

  • Perform laboratory techniques in molecular biology using BRCA1 and splice variants using various TNBC , ovarian and other cancer cell lines, including molecular cloning, DNA / RNA isolation, purification and transformation, qPCR, expression and purification of recombinant protein, experience in using siRNA etc.

  • Conduct research in Immunofluorescence microscopy, live imaging, subcellular fractionation, Western blot analysis, Apoptosis assays, Primer design and site-directed mutagenesis, experience in studying viruses etc.

  • Perform laboratory tests/procedures of basic science research. Following established protocols complying with policies.

  • Assist with research projects,

  • Perform routine laboratory and equipment maintenance.

  • Prepare all solutions/reagents for laboratory procedures.

  • Compile, process and analyze and interpret data.

  • Assist to write manuscripts and other lab duties as required by the lab priorities.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment.
