Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY :

Under minimal direction, independently and diligently prepares patient accounts for billing; prepares and issues bills; evaluates patient financial resources, establishes payment terms, performs collections and is assigned highly advanced and difficult assignments as a subject matter expert.

The Patient Account Representative II ( PAR II) is a multi-tasking highly skilled position that encompasses all key functions of the physician billing Revenue Cycle. The PAR II position requires an advanced revenue cycle knowledge that has been acquired through experience and developed through training and education. The PAR II supports patient-centered care and Customer Service by serving as a patient advocate during the life cycle of the account. The PAR II is expected to maintain productivity significantly above the average standard identified by Revenue Cycle Management. PAR II is accountable and produces very efficient and proficient results. Quality and accuracy of work performed by the PAR II is expected to be consistently above 90% of target/goal when audited. PAR II performance will be measured according to the Morehouse School of Medicine values of Caring, Quality Focus, Service, Excellence and Accountability and expected to be tiered in the top 1/3 in the department

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

PAR II Revenue Cycle duties may include but are not limited to Core Functions: Billing, Claims Filing, Data Entry, Charge Entry, Insurance Follow-Up, Self-Pay Follow-Up/Collections, Denial Resolution, Payment Posting, Refund Management, Credit Balance Management, Response to Patient Account Inquiries, Customer Service Advocacy, Self-Pay Collections, and Unapplied Cash, as well as, Advanced Functions; Systems Maintenance, Claims Edit Resolution, Claims Rejection Resolution, Front End Cash Reconciliation, and Payment Variance Management.

The PAR II Employee will be proficient in one or more Advanced Revenue Cycle Responsibilities or Functions. Advanced Revenue Cycle Responsibilities and functions are those above and beyond that of Core Revenue Cycle functions. a

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED :

High School Diploma or General Education Degree ( GED ) required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

A minimum of 3(htree) years of experience in a physician billing Revenue Cycle or Central Business Office required.

  1. Knowledge of third-party insurance in regards to plan types: HMO , PPO , POS , and Indemnity.

  2. Knowledge of the Medicare and Medicaid Programs ( CMS ) particularly as it relates to CPT procedures and ICD -9/ ICD -10 diagnostic coding. Thorough knowledge of Medicare Fraud and Abuse regulations.

  3. Ability to counsel patients financially regarding outstanding charges and effectively resolve problems via the highest customer service skills and etiquette.

  4. Functional knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of Electronic Medical Records ( EHR ) and Physician Billing Systems (PB).

  5. Possess full knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
