Position Overview

Position Title: Manager, Supply Planning & Inventory Management

Location: Atlanta, GA

Reports to: Senior Manager, Supply Planning & Inventory Management

The Manager, Supply Planning & Inventory Management participates on Newell’s strategic leadership team of preeminent experts for all aspects of supply planning and inventory management. Through an optimized supply planning and inventory approach, this leader helps advance the company’s strategic imperatives to deliver margin expansion and to improve service to exceed customer expectations. The Manager, Supply Planning & Inventory Management is a critical member of a team of experts dedicated to the Newell Divisions within North America and supports global geographies to develop and advance the supply planning and inventory strategy. This team is responsible for supporting and setting the agenda for approximately 300 supply chain leaders and supply planner constituents. The span of support responsibility for this role is approximately 75 supply chain leaders and demand planner constituents but can vary depending upon the specific initiative.

The Manager, Supply Planning & Inventory Management executes the E2E Planning team’s mission to deliver industry leading E2E planning capabilities enhancing supply plan accuracy and successful inventory management. This role expands and accelerates the E2E Planning Team’s foundation of people, process, analytics and technology in the following key areas: (1) Assess and Build Capabilities of All Division Planners, (2) Develop/Deploy Standard and Effective S&OP Processes, (3) Enable Full Adoption of Data Science Inventory Tools, and (4) Deliver a Roadmap of Success for SAP IBP.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of Supply Planning capability building projects and implementation of process and best practices in conjunction with Division Supply Chain teams and Transformation teams.

  • Contribute directly to the maximization of Supply Planning metrics (inventory DIO) and demonstrate correlation to business performance by:

  • Defining and deploying repeatable Supply Planning processes and best practices across our divisions.

  • Demonstrating the business impact and benefit of Supply Planning improvements

  • Delivering sophisticated Supply Planning diagnostic tools to facilitate analysis, decision making and to improve supply chain key performance metrics.

  • Developing strategies & best practice as primary routes to drive & sustain improvement.

  • Helping to shape the design of data collection, insights, modeling and reporting processes to improve management and decision making, in close partnership with Data Science.

  • Participate in Communities of Knowledge (Performance Improvement Knowledge Teams) for Supply Planning as the primary route to identify needs, define solutions and craft paths for execution to meet Newell’s goals.

  • Participate in the design of data collection, insights, modeling and reporting processes to improve management and decision making. Provide analysis to determine how key KPIs are tracking to goals.

  • Drive strategies, methodologies and best practices that ensure excellence in supply planning/inventory – including segmentation, improved cycle times, optimal lot size, statistical safety stock, inventory Pareto Analysis, predictive analytics, scenario planning and revenue/cost projection.

  • Support the creation and dissemination of a Newell Brands playbook for Supply Planning/Inventory with process definition, relevant examples, templates to ensure full transparency of best practice ways of working.

  • Ensure full adoption and on-going refinement of data visualization tools like Power BI to incorporate metrics and KPIs. Use storytelling to highlight key takeaways and action items across regions, brands, and channels.

  • In partnership with the Demand Planning Team, IT and IBP Business Integration, lead the Divisional implementation and refinement of the Inventory Optimization elements of SAP IBP (Integrated Business Planning) to ensure complete alignment within the business teams.

  • In partnership with the Demand Planning Team and S&OP Leadership, lead the assigned Divisional implementation and refinement of an industry leading, global S&OP process to ensure optimal decision making.

  • Maintain transparency of Supply Planning and Inventory performance with the overall organization and ensure delivery of performance results.

  • Develop detailed project plans to achieve project objectives within or across assigned Divisions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional project team members to ensure delivery of project milestones and achieve expected productivity objectives

  • Document project deliverables and develop training materials for use in educating assigned Division or Newell Supply Chain (NSC) team members.

  • Own the skill assessment, training and education of assigned Division associates to build overall Supply Planning and Inventory Management capability.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an established practitioner with a proven track record of delivering results within the End-to End Supply Chain with specific emphasis on supply planning and inventory management. The successful candidate must be technically competent in supply chain and possess solid business acumen. The candidate must have experience successfully leading change and creating buy-in for complex initiatives. This person should be collaborative, hands-on and comfortable with tactical execution while working on projects of strategic importance.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations research, Business or related field or equivalent work experience, MBA preferred

  • 5-8 years of experience in Supply chain or Operations management

  • Exposure to Supply Chain systems including but not limited to SAP, Oracle, JDE, SAS, and Manugistics.

  • 3+ plus years SNP, SAP - APO (Advance Planning and Optimization), APO Process knowledge, Experience with implementing APO projects, APO - SNP (Supply Network Planning) experience, SAP IBP I/O experience preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of Inventory Optimization concepts and experience implementing statistical safety stock solutions

  • Experience creating and developing functional specifications

  • Strong business process knowledge of supply planning and inventory management and optimization in the distribution and manufacturing environment

  • Strong Character – ability to champion the right decision in difficult situations

  • Advanced Excel skills (Look up & Reference Tables, Pivot Tables, financial and logical formulas skills essential)

  • Intermediate level skills developing presentations in MS PowerPoint

  • Ability to work with and connect with all levels of associates

  • Strong planning, communication & organizing skills

  • Initiative & follow-up, including a strong sense of autonomy

  • Strong analytical approach to problem solving and solution development

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously

  • Ability to travel approximately 50%
