Reporting to the Sr. Legal Operations Manager, the Legal Operations Analyst will be responsible for broad scale data management to realize spend optimization through the management of outside counsel, legal costs transparency, data analytics for make vs. buy analysis and increased work allocation, and implementation of technology systems and tools to allow for additional efficiencies with current legal personnel.
Operational responsibilities include reporting and analysis for the annual budgeting and planning process around law firm spend, monthly forecast and accruals, and ad hoc Legal Operations analysis and reporting as needed. The ideal candidate will be process oriented, have a good grasp on the legal industry levers related to department cost management, customer service-focused and detail-oriented. The position will require partnering with key internal organizations (FP&A, Tax, etc.). Experience leveraging cost management programs in-house, working to measure their success and communicating results to leadership teams are essential.
Work closely with Legal Operations Manager to build validation tools and other enhancements, including workflow in support of broad-scale data management and analysis.
Assist in developing dashboards for data management analyses – identify KPIs, gather and understand the meaningful information to be presented and story boarding dashboard designs.
Statistical analysis of complex data sets related to outside counsel engagements and other value based legal department activity.
Monitor, maintain, and analyze data in the Legal Systems for consistency, completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness.
Analyze outside counsel billing practices against in-house requirements.
Work cross-functionally with professionals in Legal, Finance, IT, and others.
Document and automate spend management workflows using various technologies.
Work with business to assist the Legal Operations Manager in the requirements gathering process and ensure systems are meeting team goals.
Streamline data collections.
Create adhoc reports for various legal and business teams as needed.
Train all teams on data sources, processes, and tools.
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and 5 years related experience.
Legal cost management or Legal Operations analysis experience.
Must have experience with Legal technology (e.g. SimpleLegal or other e-Billing tools and legal-department-focused tooling).
Advanced knowledge of Excel and some experience with Tableau. Knowledge of PowerBI and all Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
Time management and multitasking/prioritization experience.
Project management experience.
