Oversee the Strategic Account Portfolio (SAP) Underwriting team to ensure efficient use of resources to enable commerce while mitigating risk.

  • Direct the activities of a senior underwriting team to ensure timely and accurate completion of work, appropriate assignment of merchant applications/tasks and compliance with corporate objectives and standards.

  • Implement and monitor underwriting strategies and policies, including underwriting training and guidance as required, while maximizing profit and supporting growth.

  • Ensure senior underwriting team underwrites high risk accounts and partners in conjunction with applicable rules and guidelines.

  • Ensure team is following Credit Card Associations regulations and compliance by reviewing Associations’ circulars and bulletins.

  • Implement and monitor the process of measuring, or assessing, merchant risk and developing strategies to manage it by transferring, avoiding or reducing the negative effects of the risk.

  • Develop and maintain appropriate reporting metrics and identifying reporting tools to inform senior management of underwriting statistics.

  • Ability to provide a cursory review (pre-vet) of potential opportunities that are delivered by the sales team to gauge the appetite and acceptability of being able to move forward with an application.

  • Open communication and regularly work with internal teams and stakeholders, such as sales SMB Underwriting, Risk, Product, etc. to streamline and create efficiencies across the onboarding process.

  • Act as the liaison with Acquiring Banks’ Underwriting and Risk departments;

  • Help with the design, testing and implementation of technology projects associated with underwriting, risk and fraud prevention programs;

  • Any other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications (skills/experience)

  • Bachelor/College degree and over 10 years of experience with a minimum of 3 years management in Underwriting/Risk Management leadership positions within a financial institution, ISO, e-commerce or mail order merchant or with a credit card processor.

  • 8+ years managerial experience

  • Direct experience in transaction or payment processing, a complete understanding of the positioning of all our products, strong knowledge of risk processes.

  • Comfortable interacting with executives at all levels.

  • Knowledge of high-risk industries including Direct Selling, Travel, Ticket Brokers, Nutraceuticals, Gaming, etc. and understanding of all applicable state/federal/local regulations and laws.

  • Knowledge of AML, KYC/KYB, Fraud mitigation strategies and underwriting.

  • Knowledge of Payment Facilitator models and oversight requirements.

  • Must possess exceptional organizational, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, interpersonal, time management, verbal and written communication skills.
