Newell Brands Director - New Category Development - Writing in Atlanta, Georgia

Position Title: Director of New Category Development, Writing

Location: Atlanta, GA

Reports to: Head of Marketing, Writing – North America

Job Summary:

The Director of New Category Development is a key leader in the Writing Business Unit. The position is responsible for developing platforms to compete in adjacent sub-categories and segments within the Writing and Children’s Activities categories. The Director will lead a focused team of innovators and partner closely with counterparts across the Writing Business. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of innovation & product development, including but not limited to, opportunity identification, product definition, portfolio development, advertising, pricing, distribution, P&L ownership, etc. The position requires the individual to be a broad business leader able to work effectively with Marketing Analytics, Consumer Insights, Product R&D, Sales Planning, Activation, Finance, Operations, Packaging, Industrial & Graphic Design, etc. The Director role is also responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining high-performance Marketing talent for the business.

Key Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree, MBA preferred.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Brand Management (i.e., Marketing + General Management), Innovation Management, and White Space Innovation. Experience in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry and brands that serve children desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate consumer insight and understanding into strategies and new products. Demonstrated success in white space identification and bringing innovation with sustained results to market

  • Experience leading large, cross-functional teams to successful results.

  • Develops frameworks and processes to continuously monitor and assess customer needs, competitive landscape, and other key intelligence topics to promote market-driven decisions.

  • Demonstrated commercial orientation and ability to influence business strategy by understanding and proactively communicating implications of external trends and delivering actionable insights that ultimately drive business outcomes and value to customers.
