Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation is responsible for designing, building, and operating our unified global datacenters, managing the supply planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure, and is responsible for all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams).

To help customers achieve their goals, Azure continues to build the largest global footprint of any Cloud provider. The CO+I Infrastructure, Planning and Acquisitions (IPA) Long-Range Planning Data Science team delivers Microsoft’s Long Range Infrastructure plan using state of the art econometric/machine learning (ML) models, risk simulations and business intelligence. We are hiring an exceptional Data and Applied Scientist to focus on creating cutting edge econometric/ ML demand and capacity need models with focus on MSFT Artificial Intelligence (AI) offerings. Additionally, they will have to be able to leverage their software engineering skills to connect to various upstream and downstream systems ensuring the forecasting plan matches the execution.

Responsibilities

  • Apply their expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to develop econometric/ ML models

  • Connect and build APIs for turning data science models into a full production system

  • Understand fundamental business dynamics impactingdemand, and develop automated statistical solutions for forecasting.

  • Develop end to end models in R/ Python – including data manipulation, model building and business applications

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field

  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) or consulting experience

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Qualifications:

These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to drive projects and build buy-in and support. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a business-critical function. 

  • Technical certifications relevant to data analysis/BI

Data Science IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
