Behavioral Health Associate

Opportunity

Abt Associates seeks an Associate with behavioral health experience (either mental health and/or substance use disorder) to support evaluation, research and technical assistance projects funded by SAMHSA and other agencies supporting behavioral health work. This position will serve as Project Manager on 2 to 3 mid to large evaluation or technical assistance projects and will guide the project work as well as conduct components of the project research, such as leading a qualitative study or research guide. The candidate will work in a team environment, participate in and leading major projects, direct proposal efforts, and manage relationships with the study sponsors. He/she will maintain excellent relationships with federal agency and Abt training and evaluation partners and consultants be regarded within target agencies and organizations as a subject matter expert. The candidate will have demonstrated capability of presenting and speaking at professional meetings and supporting development and publication of research findings.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate and occasionally lead efforts to design and implement mixed methods behavioral health related evaluation and technical assistance studies.

  • Serve as project manager for medium to large public health/behavioral health related evaluation projects.

  • Participate with other senior staff in SAMHSA and other agency business development activities by obtaining additional work from existing clients or by identifying new opportunities.

  • Exercise initiative and lead the preparation and review of project reports and findings.

  • Develop or maintain an industry presence as a behavioral health subject-matter expert by presenting and/or publishing.

  • Review work and provide technical guidance to less senior staff. Serve as a resource capable of applying advanced evaluation techniques, concepts, and methods related to behavioral health and related co-morbidities such as HIV or primary care.

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

  • Experience working on evaluation studies or technical assistance projects focusing on substance use disorder, mental health, health equity, and structurally marginalized populations

  • Experience managing behavioral health project including evaluation programs preferably with SAMHSA, HRSA, ASPE, CDC, and/or AHRQ.

  • Position also requires significant experience in project and program development, client relationship management and project leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree + Seven years of relevant experience, or PhD + Four years of relevant experience

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary of approximately $84,637 to $135,420 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographical location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.

Abt Associates has the ability to hire at the Senior Associate level if the selected candidate better fits the more senior position.
