WSP USA Baggage Handling System Project Management in Atlanta, Georgia

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Aviation Baggage Handling System (BHS) Project Manager to work out of our Atlanta Airport Project Site Office for Delta Airlines.

Our Aviation Technical Excellence Center provides engineering and planning services for airports facilities, terminals and supports WSP's projects around the world. The Aviation team works on multiple projects simultaneously, in close coordination with other technical departments.

Your Impact

  • Design and develop baggage handling systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to determine the best solutions for baggage handling needs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, architects, and other engineers, to integrate BHS into overall airport infrastructure.

  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of BHS equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to BHS operations.

  • Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and user manuals.

  • Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in baggage handling technology and industry best practices.

  • Establish and actively drive the appropriate levels of technical review required for the project, selecting appropriately qualified staff to perform the required reviews, and adherence to the QA/QC plan, as applicable.

  • Ensure and maintain a record of each review and the disposition of review comments and all correspondence leaving the project.

  • Mentor project team members to support their growth and professional development.

  • Perform margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies.

  • Participate in the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings.

  • Conduct and facilitate project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin for an assigned portfolio of projects.

  • Oversee management of budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control.

  • Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements in a timely manner.

  • Maintain regular communications with the client including reporting on monthly status, safety incidents, and major issues together with scope and budget impacts.

  • Participate in problem project reviews, providing input about root cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.

  • Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers, identifying any emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget.

  • Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed.

  • Work with the Procurement Department to closeout procurements and/or supplier agreements as appropriate.

  • Complete formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.

  • Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP).

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.

  • Essential project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP-M).

  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within our industry.

  • Able to review contract documentation at all stages of the project

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with PGDS, ISAT, TRR

  • Strong airside and landside experience on large hub U.S. commercial airports

  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients

  • Valid driver's license, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Hire is contingent upon client approval, being able to obtain an airport badge, and the successful completion of a background check which will be initiated upon receipt of your signed offer letter. Also, as a condition of employment, it is required to provide proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent residency in the U.S., or current authorization to work in the U.S. within (3) days of your start date.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
