Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY : Preferred States: Georgia, California, Washington, Kentucky, Tennessee.

This position is responsible for teaching courses as well as planning, advising students, and working with the Office of Online Education and Expanded Programs for the Online Doctor of Health Administration program. The faculty will teach 5-6 courses per year, monitor student progress, serve as student advisor, work with the program director and program manager for curriculum development, serve on assigned committees and other duties as outlined.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  1. Contribute to the formation, enforcement and tracking of policies that impact student outcomes and learning.

  2. Assist in curriculum development for the Online DHA Program

  3. Assess course plans, outcomes and learning objectives to provide the best and most relevant education to students.

  4. Work effectively and collaboratively with individuals/stakeholders to maintain and further develop Online DHA program(s) and related combined degrees at MSM .

  5. Participate in administrative activities of Assessment & Operations.

  6. Assist in the development of course content, and other curricular materials used for instruction and benefit of MSM students.

  7. Advise students on projects relative towards scholarly activities (presentations, conferences, posters, papers, etc.)

  8. Submit requested information in a timely manner to support administrative and/or accreditation requirements.

Expectations for Instructional Faculty for Online Courses

The following list outlines the expectations for online faculty:

  1. Manage the online course

a) Post a welcome message and introduction prior to or within the first 24 hours of the course. Encourage students to post welcome statements to each other.

b) Conduct a minimum of 8 regularly scheduled office hours per week. Office hours are intended to provide students with the ability to communicate with instructors in real-time. If the office hours must be cancelled, students should be given advance notice and provided with information detailing alternate office hours.

c) Submit attendance by the following Monday for each week.

d) Demonstrate clear understanding of the Online Attendance Policy located in the Online Handbook for Online Courses.

e) Contact students and the Program Director and follow up with those who may be experiencing individual issues around attendance or performance and recommending support services as appropriate.

  1. Teach and facilitate the courses

a) Teach the assigned course in accordance with learning objectives and session plan outlines.

b) Deliver learner-centered instruction through online delivery mechanisms (i.e. discussion boards, office hours, small group sessions, synchronous and asynchronous sessions, etc.)

c) Promote discussion board participation by posting substantial responses to select student postings at least three different days per week.

d) Respond to all student communications within one business day. If a student concern requires additional time to resolve, send an acknowledgement to the student to indicate receipt of his/her message.

e) Post announcements relevant to address upcoming activities, encourage use of learning support services, clarify expectations, student concerns, etc.

  1. Assess student learning

a) Adhere to all rubrics to assess student learning.

b) Submit grades 4 business days after due date in the online grade book and keep the grade book current. Provide each student substantial feedback on assignments that contribute to the final grade.

c) Grade all final assignments and submit final course grades by Wednesday after the end of the term.

d) Stay engaged in the course with any students who have been granted course extensions (incompletes). Be sure to adhere to policy guidelines and timelines.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS , & ABILITIES :

  • DHA , PhD or equivalent degree in Health Administration, Finance, Management, or related field

  • Experience in teaching online courses is highly preferred.

  • Experience with the features and functions of online Learning Management systems

  • Experience with STEM pipeline and graduate education grant writing is highly preferred.

  • Experience working in health administration industry is recommended.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of graduate course development, planning, and evaluation.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related institutional policies and procedures.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Build and maintain a positive working relationship with MSM employees and the public.

  • Skill in managing a variety of tasks simultaneously with competing deadlines with minimum supervision in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Skill in working independently and with minimum supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Doctoral degree. Minimum three years of teaching experience, including one year of experience in graduate course management. PC skills and knowledge of specified software, including two years’ experience using computers and various software packages, i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, SmartSheet, etc.
