ACADEMIC PROFESSIONALThe Department of World Languages & Cultures at Georgia State University anticipates hiring a full-time Academic Professional in the 2022-2023 academic year starting in the Summer semester (May-June, 2022) pending budgetary approval. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology, Applied Linguistics, or a World Language. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in second language acquisition and pedagogy, including familiarity with current theories and methods of instruction and technologies for language acquisition and cultural learning at all levels (beginner to advanced) and a range of languages (commonly and less-commonly taught). Georgia State University is a leading R-1 university located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. It is one of the University System of Georgia\'s four research universities, the largest institution of higher education by enrollment in the state, and is in the top ten in the nation in the number of students. GSU enrolls and graduates one of the most diverse student bodies in the country. Its Department of World Languages & Cultures is committed to serving the majority-minority student body and advancing innovative research by building a diverse faculty. The newly appointed Academic Professional will manage the CIRCLE (Center for International Resources and Collaborative Language Engagement), the department\'s language center. As an Academic Professional, the position involves 20% teaching and 80% administrative/service, which includes overseeing the following areas:Determine budgetary needs and seek funding through grantsDevelop and deliver workshops, seminars, and programming to (a) increase student learning and retention and (b) support professional development of facultyCollaborate with faculty to integrate technology in language and culture coursesCollaborate with faculty to innovate and align the curriculum to (a) meet established professional standards and (b) contribute to the goals of the College and University strategic plans and (c) grow the programs in WLCManage and lead community engagement and outreach efforts with an emphasis on career readiness initiativesThe position will play a vital role in the functioning of the language center and the department. The CIRCLE\'s recent redesign has strengthened the position of this center as a collaborative learning environment that supports student success and language instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities. The CIRCLE also operates as a welcoming learning space that provides students access to tutoring, materials, technologies, and equipment to further their learning.The CIRCLE also supports the professional development of faculty and plays a particularly important role in career development for non-tenure track language faculty. The Academic Professional will also play a vital role in developing career-readiness initiatives by assisting faculty to develop task- and project-based learning opportunities. This is a key area of our newly proposed unified BA/MA program and contributes significantly to the development of the most recent College-to-Career initiatives.
