Ohio University Resident Director (Pool) in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

Ohio University’s Department of Housing and Residence Life is committed to helping every Bobcat discover their potential and make a meaningful impact. The department seeks candidates for a full-time Resident Director (RD) position, an administrative contract position within the Department of Housing & Residence Life which reports directly to an Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life. Directly supervising a residential community comprised of 200-600 residents. The RD position is an integral part of the Housing and Residence Life team. The department has designed and implemented a residential curriculum and RDs will have the opportunity to be part of establishing a curricular approach at OU, as well as other initiatives to support retention and student success.

In addition to unique opportunities within various communities, RDs have the following core responsibilities:

• Supervise a team of student staff, depending on community

• Design and implementation of an educational and community development

plan for their residential community.

• Advise hall council.

• Facilitate a variety of business operations processes that support the

residential experience.

• Manage crisis and facilities concerns, in addition to serving in an on-call

rotation.

• Serving as a university hearing officer.

Successful candidates will possess skills to:

• Foster strong, inclusive residential communities.

• Build relationships with residents and department colleagues.

• Demonstrate a commitment to intentional learning and assessment.

• Mentor and coach staff with intentionality.

• Collaborate with faculty and staff across the institution.

Requirements for Position:

• Bachelor’s degree required by start date; master’s degree preferred.

• Some relevant work experience strongly preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required by start date

Some relevant work experience strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors or Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field required by start date.

The ability to understand and put into practice theories and models related to student development.

Demonstrated supervisory skills including training and on-going developmental supervision.

Experience in developing and implementing student focused programming.

Evidence of strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Experience in facilitating student conduct hearings.

Commitment to issues and matters relating to the field of Student Affairs.

Experience responding to crisis situation and students in crisis.
