Ohio University Research Assistant (Part-Time Temporary) in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Russ College of Engineering and Technology’s Engineering Technology and Management ( ETM ) Department at Ohio University seeks applicants for the part-time, grant-funded position of Research Assistant.The research assistant (RA), a data analytics and engineering specialist, will assist Professor Jesus Pagan in analyzing data, code programming, and performing data entry and data generation. The RA will help with the implementation of a database system to collect and analyze data by programming agents to mimic the manufacturing and production of parts and subcomponents designed to support the validation of various industrial applications that deal with robotics and automation. The RA will also assist with the support for computer systems used in the development and such systems which include and are not limited to Microsoft systems, Linux, and MAC OS. These can range from real machines to virtual private networks as well as cloud systems.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Data Analysis – The RA will help with collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and reporting data. Some database languages may include: Apache Cassandra, MariaDB, MongoDB, MySQL, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis.

  2. Data Engineering – The RA will help with creating and maintaining architectural systems for collecting, storing, analyzing, and managing large quantities of raw data. Some coding languages tools may include: C#, Git, Javascript, .Net, Python, and R.

  3. Data Visualization – The RA will help with data analytics by identifying patterns and showcasing findings while crafting visual roadmaps. Some visualization tools may include: Google Analytics & Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Power BI, and Tableau.

  4. Technical Support – The RA will provide a service designed to assist individuals with resolving technical issues or providing guidance and advice on operating technological devices as part of the lab or other remote locations in support of regional efforts in digital engineering. These issues can range from troubleshooting or installing of a computer, software, or electronic device to more

complicated issues.

  1. Report Development – The RA will help with the report development. All findings of the research and development created while developing various systems will be documented, stored electronically, and included in by-weekly summary reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field by start date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
