Ohio University Assistant Professor of Instruction, Counselor Education, Non Tenure-Track in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Department of Counseling and Higher Education, in the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education at Ohio University ( OHIO ), invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable Assistant Professor of Instruction position starting in fall 2024. Teaching (in-person, on the Athens campus in our CACREP accredited master’s program and in our online CACREP -accredited School Counseling program) and service are required elements of this position. The position will be on an 11-month contract with one month off during summer term. The position will be annually renewable for the first five years and after that renewable for three-year terms.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching 8 graduate courses during fall, spring, and summer semesters at the master’s level in Counselor Education in the core CACREP content areas and in specialization courses;

  • Advising and mentoring master’s students in the Counselor Education program;

  • Providing service at the program, department, college, and university levels;

  • Providing service to professional counseling organizations and/or the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

We are interested in candidates who possess excellent communication and people skills, and meet the qualifications listed below:

  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP -accredited program, with a specialization in School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the master’s or doctoral level;

  • Prior counseling work or internship experience;

  • Evidence of successful college teaching experience; experience with electronic distance education/online teaching;

  • Ability to teach CACREP core counseling courses at the master’s level.

  • Professional identity with the counseling profession through membership in professional counseling organizations such as American Counseling Association [ ACA ] and ACA divisions, ASCA , etc.;

  • Licensed or license eligible as a professional counselor ( LPC or LPCC ) or a school counselor in the state of Ohio.

  • Ability to broaden the diversity of perspectives available to our students within the program through personal practice, teaching philosophy, and service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of scholarly activity (e.g. professional conference presentations, published articles, book chapters, and/or books).
