Assistant Principal
The Assistant Principal, under the direct supervision of the Director of Education/Principal, plays a vital role as a key member of the interdisciplinary leadership team at Beacon School. This position is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of both staff and students, contributing to policy development, and ensuring high-quality program delivery. The Assistant Principal will lead the school in the absence of the Principal and work closely with the Behavior Support Specialist. *This role is a temporary position that will transition into the Director of Educational Services/Principal position. This position is designed to succeed the current Director of Educational Service. *
Qualifications:
- Master's degree required; a degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in educational leadership, with 2 years in a supervisory or administrative role, preferably in a special education setting.
- Experience working with students with developmental disabilities and managing educational, therapy, and support programs.
- Demonstrates leadership/management/ communication skills. Has organizational skills.
- Eligible for ODE Principal certification.
- Knowledge of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process and experience in ensuring compliance with IEP deadlines and state/federal regulations.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including local school districts, referral sources, internal departments, and external agencies.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to address issues and concerns effectively and with sensitivity.
- Familiarity with Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) regulations and requirements preferred.
Job Duties:
Leadership & Communication:
- Actively lead and motivate staff, ensuring respectful communication at all levels of the organization. Foster an environment of engagement and collaboration to achieve school goals.
Student Support:
- Plan, direct, administer and evaluate Beacon School's educational and support programs including Preschool, School Age, Therapies and family support.
- Coordinate development and monitoring of teaching curriculum.
- Ensure that services are provided in the most appropriate, least restrictive manner.
- Provide direct support to staff in implementing behavior management programs and assist in de-escalation and crisis interventions when needed.
- Participates in student arrival and departure each school day by being present outside of the building and assisting with loading/unloading of students as needed.
