Ohio University Assistant Director for Community Standards and Student Responsibility in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Community Standards and Student Responsibility primarily facilitates the Student Conduct process. This position also serves as a resource on student conduct matters for students, faculty, and staff of Ohio University. This position has a direct expectation that they partner with other members of the office to remove systemic barriers that impact access and participation in the process. Further, the Assistant Director has the primary responsibility to recruit, retain, and evaluate faculty, staff, and students who serve on the University Hearing Board. Finally, the Assistant Director also serves as a hearing officer within the University’s student sexual misconduct process.

  • Facilitates the Community Standards process for students/student organizations by conducting meetings that describe the process, explaining student/student organization rights and discussing/investigating the allegations of misconduct. Serves as an administrative hearing officer and/or advisor to the University Hearing Board. This also includes all administrative functions necessary to support the process.

  • Assists in the planning and coordination of educational programming (training, seminars, programs, etc.); including the development of publications/materials for students, faculty and staff regarding the Student Code of Conduct and other topics related to student conduct. This also includes recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of University Hearing Board Members.

  • Serves as a hearing officer in the student sexual misconduct process as required. Works closely with the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance to adjudicate these matters. This also includes completing all administrative functions necessary to support the process (keeping accurate and timely records, completing trainings, etc.)

  • Supervises a Graduate Assistant and/or Graduate Practicum student in order to maintain consistency and quality control over their work product as well as provide educational and developmental context and support for their professional growth.

  • Student conduct, as a field, is based on student behavior and is not always predictable. This position deals with the possible separation of students from the University and interfaces on a regular basis with students, parents, faculty, policy, attorneys, and upper-level administration. This person must be able to explain the rationale and reasons for decisions made and speak to both office and institutional philosophy and practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Policy Studies, or other relevant field.

A minimum of 1 year of related work experience.

Advertised Salary:

The target salary range is $44,592 to $59,085 commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
