Latitude, Inc. Product Mechanical Engineer in Athens, Georgia

The Product Sustaining Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing and executing product-focused continuous improvement (CI) and value engineering projects for all facets of our client’s products and components, whether produced internally or sourced from vendors.

The candidate will provide on-going engineering and technical support that follows release of requirements, specifications, and drawings for fabrication, assembly, testing, and delivery of an end-product.

The ideal candidate will have deep know-how in mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly & test processes and procedures. The ability to direct production personnel towards maximum performance will set you apart as a leader. Critical decision-making and problem-solving will take up a great part of your day.

The goal is to enable an efficient and productive manufacturing and production operations process that meets customer requirements by

  • Building a quality assurance and management team that supports a rapidly expanding installed of electrostatic chemical dispensing machines

  • Providing strategic leadership for the quality team

  • Providing day-to-day management of the quality team and its activities

    Duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Understand our client's customer expectations of and needs from a product, and ensure such understanding is embedded in the production and supply chain quality

  • Investigate product complaints at clinical/customer sites, perform root cause analysis of failures, and propose remediation in a timely fashion

  • Analyze customer feedback and product returns and generate prioritized actions to address weaknesses associated with the company's products and to capture user needs and look for opportunities to improve products

  • Review existing product designs to identify improvement opportunities and propose, implement and monitor effectiveness of improvements.

  • Build early concepts of corrective designs and thoroughly test them

  • Create strategy for the verification of the corrective designs, and participate in verification activities.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and production teams to perform DFMA and PRR documentation to ensure a smooth transfer from development to production

  • Support the supply chain team as required, to resolve vendor issues with component production

  • Contribute to risk management analyses such as FMEA, PFMEA and hazard analysis

  • Support the quality management team to ensure compliance with the quality management system and product quality standards; actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS)

    Position Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering or similar undergraduate degree

  • 7 years of industry experience

  • Extensive knowledge of Solid Works and proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of CAM, Ansys, and LabView software a plus

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

  • Tenacious problem solver, organized, detail oriented

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, electro-mechanical assembly, 3D printing and sheet metal fabrication

  • Knowledge of ASTM standards and testing methods

  • Competency in mechanical analysis such as kinematics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, material strength

  • Mechanical aptitude including ability to use common shop tools and measurement equipment
