TAMARACK HEALTH MEDICAL CENTER Optical Assistant in ASHLAND, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Optical Assistant is responsible for greeting patients, answering phones, assisting in frame selection, inputting spectacle orders, maintaining patient records, repairing, measuring, adjusting, and dispensing spectacles. The Optical Assistant will also submit orders to insurance as well as post incoming insurance/patient payments. This position is also responsible for ordering contact lens trials for the doctors, ordering contact lens revenue packs for the patients, approving or denying contact lens verifications, and making contact lens fitting appointments. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: -Optical experience a plus but will train. -Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language. -Must obtain American Board of Opticianry Certification (ABO) within 2 years of hire. -Two years experience in a medical office setting working with confidential patient information preferred. -Must be able to work under supervision and independently, competently following orders professionally and confidentially. -Must be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others. -Must be able to communicate effectively with doctors and staff both verbally and in writing. -Demonstrates legible penmanship. -Demonstrates high standards of performance, pleasantness, and courtesy. Has professional appearance and demeanor. -Demonstrates high quality telephone etiquette. -Ability to use Windows based computer programs. -Must be able to use independent problem-solving techniques. -Must be able to adjust to change and frequent interruptions; must be able to meet deadlines as required and to work in a fast-paced environment. -Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and to remain calm in stressful situations. -Must have current knowledge of or ability to learn electronic scheduling software applications within 3 weeks of hire. -Able to order glasses/contacts based on the doctor\'s recommendations as well as the patient\'s needs/wants. -Will work with vendors and sales representatives as needed. -Adjusting and fitting frames according to the prescriptions and customer\'s specification, as well as to suit the customer\'s face. -Keeping inventory of frames and optical products stocked. -Using specialized equipment, such as lensometer, lens clocks, pupilometer, c-sizer, and UV sanitizer. -Educating patients on how to wear and maintain they glasses. ***All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. ***** APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Apply Online: www.tamarackhealth.org/current-openings/
