Job Summary and Qualifications

Role Summary: Provides financial leadership for the centralized accounting team of Mission Health System; and establishes and implements financial policies, plans and goals in support of Mission’s strategic direction and regional planning. Works with the Mission planning staff and Senior Leadership to ensure that the strategic, operational, and financial plans are integrated and consistent. Provides assistance to the Division Controller and Chief Financial Officer on all financial matters related to Mission Health System members and strategic financial planning. Leads the Mission Health System Accounting function including preparation of financial statements, and oversight of the accounts payable and Sarbanes-Oxley functions. Frequent interaction with senior leadership, department directors, and staff.

Essential Accountabilities:

1. Provides financial oversight of Mission Health System member hospitals and supports regional planning by developing financial strategies that contribute to the growth and financial success and sustainability of Mission Health System.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Demonstrates the ability to understand whole systems and how elements within systems relate, with skill to work cooperatively with others to use appropriate systems strengths, knowledge and cooperation to improve financial performance.

  2. Recruits and builds a solid finance team to work collaboratively with operational leaders of Mission Health member hospitals.

  3. Provides strategic financial support for regional hospitals which contribute to overall effectiveness and service of Mission Health System.

Provides oversight of the Central Accounting function for Mission Health System.

Performance Criteria:

  1. Directs and manages fiscal functions of the CAO in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  2. Organizes functions of the CAO through the assignment of responsibilities and monitor those activities to ensure completion of work in specified time frames according to departmental, division or corporate policies.

  3. Creates and fosters and environment that encourages open communication within the CAO and between the CAO and hospital management.

  4. Ensures timely and accurate budget analysis and financial review.

  5. Recommends and develops policies, procedures and systems that are consistent with the mission, operating goals and objectives of each facility under the CAO.

  6. Facilitates completion of budgets, cost report workpapers, and ad hoc reports under the direction of the Division Controller & Facility CFOs.

  7. Prepares and coordinates internal and external audits.

  8. Provides strategic financial leadership.

  9. Builds, develops and manages financial initiatives.

  10. Supervises the CAO Controllers and Accounting Staff

  11. Oversees daily operations of the CAO

  12. Prepares and presents various financial reports.

  13. Conducts contract reviews/audits.

  14. Facilitates selected Monthly Operations Review (MOR) processes.

  15. Performs other related duties as assigned by Division and Facility Senior Leadership.

  16. Oversees the timely completion of month end close for the CAO and its COID’s.

  17. Selects, trains, and evaluates performance of CAO personnel to ensure quality of service and technical expertise.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities :

Required Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Health Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education : Master’s Degree in Business or Health Care Administration

Preferred License : Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Required Experience : Minimum of seven years of demonstrated, progressively responsible financial and management experience is necessary with a preference for previous strategic financial planning experience.

Preferred Experience : Experience in leading successful large-scale financial transformation initiatives.
