ShoffnerKalthoff MES, Inc (SKMES) is growing and looking for a Sheet Metal Mechanic. SKMES Sheet Metal Mechanics work to fabricate, assemble, install and repair sheet metal components as part of a work site team, under the supervision of skilled foremen. The successful candidate will have successful experience as a sheet metal craftsmen, a strong understanding of air conditioning and heating systems, professional work skills, and a desire to work alongside other tradesmen.

SHEET METAL MECHANIC JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY: The Sheet Metal Mechanic performs skilled journeyman work in fabricating, installing and repairing sheet metal equipment and fixtures with a minimum of waste. Leads and trains subordinates and is responsible for satisfactory completion of tasks. Work is performed with much independence using standard trade practices and is re viewed in process or up on completion to insure conformity with specifications and accepted standard of craftsmanship.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Leads and trains subordinates; lays out patterns; shapes and fabricates sheet metal on such assignments as installing or repairing containers, fixtures, and flashings, and ventilating and air conditioning ducts; lays out and forms angle iron racks, table stands, metal frames, doors and guards for windows.

  • Leads and trains subordinates with the installation of HVAC equipment and devices.

  • Solders, rivets and seams a variety of articles in construction or repair work; repairs metal filing cases, cabinets, lockers and counters.

  • Operates such equipment as sheet metal forming machines, folders, shears, cutters and crimpers.

  • Applies thorough knowledge of materials, practices, equipment and tools of the sheet metal working trade; of characteristics, uses and adaptabilities of light metals; of hazards and safety precautions of trade.

  • Lifts heavy objects and works from ladders, scaffolding, scissor-lifts or boom lifts at heights on a routine basis.

  • Performs other related work as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • MINIMUM of 2 years of commercial HVAC/Sheet Metal experience required.

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to

  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly, including under stressful situations.

  • Demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.

  • Make decisions and / or take actions to resolve work issues.

  • Stand, walk, and reach outward constantly, and lift/carry up to 60 lbs unassisted.

  • Exercise fine motor control and possess excellent hand-eye coordination.

  • Job demands frequent work at heights and requires constant reaching above shoulders, crawling, squatting, kneeling, bending.
