System One Geomatics Department Manager in Asheville, North Carolina

Geomatics Department Manager -

Job Description:

Lead the Asheville Geomatics Department including assisting with subsurface utility exploration (SUE) activities oversight in western North Carolina. Responsible for working with other Geomatics Department Managers and the Government Sector Practice Leader to profitably grow the internal Geomatics operation. Primary role also includes directing and scheduling field and office surveying staff on land surveying assignments and assisting with field operations and mapping as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for maintaining adequate backlog for Asheville based survey operations.

  • Responsible for leading surveying and SUE projects for NCDOT Western Divisions and municipal and private clients.

  • Responsible for client marketing strategy and implementation.

  • Responsible for client satisfaction through timely submission of high-quality survey projects.

  • Responsible for training Asheville based field staff in equipment operation, maintenance, and calibration in conjunction with Geomatics Department Managers.

  • Provides direction for field staff procedures and methods in conjunction with Geomatics Department Managers.

  • Leads Asheville survey field health and safety compliance.

  • Performs and leads others performing survey data processing, survey computations and mapping.

  • Prepare Proposals (estimates & scope) for in house disciplines as well as existing and new clients.

  • Manage monthly billing process with Project Managers.

  • Directs the preparation of survey maps, plans, and exhibits.

  • Maintain records, prepare reports and prepares correspondence as needed related to the completion of work assignments.

  • Conform, in all respects, with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and adhere to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.

    Qualifications:

  • Licensed in North Carolina as a Professional Land Surveyor.

  • A minimum of 10 years surveying/mapping experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

  • Experienced at boundary, topographic, and highway surveying and mapping.

  • Proficiency with surveying programs on AutoCAD and/or MicroStation platforms.

  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to make decision in a timely manner

  • Knowledge of surveying and mapping laws and rules.

  • Skilled at preparing survey drawings and performing conventional field surveys efficiently and accurately.

  • Ability to handle and manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks.

  • Ability to coordinate and direct multiple survey crews and survey technicians.

  • Operate standard office equipment (i.e., personal computer, plotter, facsimile, copy machine, etc.)

  • Proficiency with conventional field survey instruments, 3D Scanner and GNSS.

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Licensed in North Carolina as a Professional Land Surveyor is a plus

  • Experience with Drones is a plus
