About our opportunity:

The City’s Streets Services Division of Public Works is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and revitalization of streets, bridges, walls, guardrail, tree trimming and mowing within the right-of-way, assisting with graffiti removal, street sweeping downtown and snow removal from streets within the city’s jurisdiction.

The City’s Streets Services Division of Public Works is seeking to fill a full-time Construction Supervisor position. This position serves as an essential member of the leadership team, as the position is responsible to perform administrative, supervisory, planning and coordinating functions within the division. The position is responsible for managing the staff and day-to-day operations of the Streets - Utility Cut Program and Right Of Way Cut Program. This position directly supervises 3 employees, and currently oversees an overall workforce of 9 employees. Major operational areas include utility cut asphalt patching, utility cut concrete repairs and Right of Way compliance.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: plans, directs and reviews work of individuals and the team.

  • Plans, directs and coordinates work unit operations by developing and implementing policies, procedures and methods.

  • Provides internal and external customer service by responding to questions from the general public, building relationships and networking, providing information and directing customers to appropriate individuals.

  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work: prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives.

  • Coordinates closely with the Operations Manager on various issues including but not limited to budget, strategic goals, and coordination on division and departmental priorities.

  • Develops, implements, and updates policies and procedures for assigned functional areas.

  • Manages financial activities for area of assignment: makes recommendations regarding budget allocations for staffing, equipment and capital improvement needs.

  • Monitors and maintains inventory for the Utility Cut Program and Right Of Way Cut Program and prepares reports related to department activities and operations.

  • Manages projects and work activities in area of assignment.

  • Receives and responds to complaints of code, standards and ordinance violations.

  • Maintains a current, comprehensive knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, principles, trends, and practices relating to code inspection and enforcement.

  • Ensures adherence to established safety procedures.

  • Performs related duties to support operations in area of assignment.

  • Associate degree in Business, Construction Management, or other related fields in the areas of roadway, sidewalk or bridge construction and maintenance. Industry obtained education may be substituted.

  • Five years of experience in Standards and Specification and Ordinances inspection and enforcement, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Other things to know:

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM (40 hours per week). This position must also be available to work Friday's, evenings, weekends, holidays, during inclement weather, during emergency situations, and during special events as needed.

Knowledge:

Working Conditions:
