Senior Director of Quality for the Defense and Aerospace

We are looking for a Senior Director of Quality to be based in one of Curtiss-Wrights Defense Solutions US facilities.

As our Senior Director of Quality for the Defense and Aerospace , you will have the responsibility for the coordination of Quality Managers and Quality teams from multiple sites that carry independent certifications . Though independently certified, these sites work in and toward standardized practice in line with Business needs. These sites have common customers and require high level coordinated customer interaction.

Location: Ashburn VA- Remote or close to any Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions US facility.

Your Challenge:

  • Responsible for leading a team and driving the quality agenda within the organization.

  • Overseeing and managing the quality control and assurance processes for products and systems used in defense and aerospace applications.

  • Ensuring that all products meet the required quality standards and regulatory requirements.

  • May include developing and implementing quality management systems, conducting audits and inspections, analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement, collaborating with cross-functional teams to address quality issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.

  • Be involved in supplier quality management, customer satisfaction initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Expertise in quality management principles, relevant industry standards, and regulatory requirements would be crucial in driving a culture of quality excellence and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services in the defense and aerospace sector.

What you Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, quality management. While a master's degree is not essential candidates with such a degree will stand out in the selection process.

  • Significant experience in quality management roles within the defense and aerospace industry is essential. The number of years of experience required can vary depending on the organization and the complexity of the products or systems involved. A leader with multi-site management and management of remote teams is important in this role.

  • A deep understanding of quality management principles, methodologies, and standards.

  • Familiarity with industry-specific quality standards such as AS9100 for aerospace or ISO 9001 for general quality management is highly desirable.

  • Experience in ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry-specific standards is important. This may include knowledge of defense industry regulations, export control regulations, and certifications such as ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) or EAR (Export Administration Regulations).

  • Strong leadership, communication, and managerial skills are important to effectively manage teams, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • The ability to analyze complex quality data, identify trends, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Experience with statistical analysis techniques, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies can be advantageous.

  • A solid understanding of the defense and aerospace industry, including its unique challenges, requirements, and technologies.

  • Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging trends can help drive quality improvement initiatives.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), or Six Sigma certifications (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt) can enhance your credibility and demonstrate your expertise in quality management.
