Human Resources Specialist - Employee Development and Engagement
Classification Summary:
The HR Specialist for Employee Development and Engagement is responsible for fostering a positive workplace culture, enhancing employee satisfaction, and supporting the professional growth of employees. Key responsibilities include coordinating the onboarding process for new hires, implementing engagement and retention strategies, organizing employee recognition programs, and overseeing training and development initiatives. The role involves conducting regular assessments to measure satisfaction, collaborating with employees to address concerns, and developing retention strategies. Additionally, the HR Specialist will identify training needs, coordinate development programs, and track the effectiveness of training initiatives to ensure employees are well-equipped to excel in their roles. Strong organizational skills and a collaborative mindset are essential for contributing to a supportive and motivating work environment.
Minimum Education and/or Training and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field and minimum of three years of experience in HR, with a strong focus on employee development. Consideration will be given to applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess excellent presentation skills to effectively communicate ideas and information to diverse audiences
Thorough understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in HRIS systems and Google suite.
Preferred Education and/or Training and Experience:
Certification in HR (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP)
Experience in higher education HR

Classification Duties:
Develop and maintain comprehensive onboarding materials aligned with college policies and culture, and gather feedback to continuously improve the onboarding experience. (C4)
Coordinate the employee onboarding process for new employees, ensuring they receive necessary resources, introductions, and support for a seamless integration. (B2)
Implement strategies to enhance employee engagement and promote a positive work environment. Regularly interact with various employee constituent groups and the Employee Support Committee to assess engagement and development needs, present ideas, receive feedback, and collaboratively develop initiatives. (C4)
Develop and organize employee recognition programs, events, and initiatives to celebrate achievements and foster a sense of belonging. (B2)
Conduct regular surveys and assessments to measure employee satisfaction, identify areas for improvement, and develop and implement new strategies. (C4)
Analyze retention metrics and develop strategies to reduce turnover and increase employee tenure. (C4)
Coordinate and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and professional development programs to enhance employees skills and knowledge. (C4)
Partner with external training providers or collaborate with internal subject matter experts to develop training resources and initiatives to address specific learning objectives including leadership development and performance management. Track and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives, making adjustments as necessary to ensure maximum impact. (C4)
Promote and provide guidance to employees on career development opportunities, including tuition reimbursement, professional development initiatives and mentorship programs. (B2)
