The Opportunity
Black & Veatch is growing and looking for the right team members to join our Digital Advisory Organization. The Technical Project Manager (PM) leads the delivery of Utility Transformational programs and projects in the areas of Grid Modernization, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Customer Experience solutions, and Enterprise Work and Asset Management. This includes management of the project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and resources, with participation and consultation in technical solution delivery strategy, solutions architecture, business and systems integration, and organizational change management. This role will also work closely with the Project Director to manage and deliver on contractual obligations, client satisfaction, pull through business opportunities, and develop trusted, long-term client relationships.
The Technical PM brings practitioner-level experience delivering transformational-related projects for utilities, as a utility employee, working for utility infrastructure or software platform vendor, or in a consulting capacity for utilities. The preferred candidate will be conversant in the business, functional, and technical aspects of the utility, including bringing direct experience with utility construction and software systems delivery methodologies, power systems T&D infrastructure, distributed energy resources, and OT/IT systems (e.g. EMS/SCADA, ADMS/OMS, DERMS, GIS).
This role will also be called on to support Black & Veatch Federal Award project delivery, working under the Bi-partisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding to support various federal award programs, e.g. Grid Reliability and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) grant project execution. These federal programs are funding utilities across the country to increase reliability and resiliency for disadvantaged communities, advance the rollout and demonstrate use cases for new technologies like Batter Energy Storage and Hydrogen, deliver increased transmission capacity to more effectively integrate renewables, enhance cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, expand EV charging infrastructure, and deliver improved situational awareness, asset management, and reliability through increased network telecommunications capacity across the power system.
Much of the project management and delivery work will be done remotely through online, virtual meetings with Black & Veatch team members and our clients. Travel to the client site is on an as needed basis, but typically no more than 1-2 times per month for 2-3 days per trip.
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Strategic Advisory & Lifecycle Resiliency Services are an integrated portfolio of strategic consulting and operation resiliency services that apply across the client’s entire investment-to-operations lifecycle commitments. Included are Strategic Advisory, Industrial Cybersecurity, and Operating Assets.
Key Responsibilities
Align client technical needs with identified business objectives through the planning and execution of grid, asset, and customer solution projects.
Manage large, complex, multi-year technology infrastructure and systems projects involving multiple stakeholder organizations across the utility.
Bring strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles and negotiate resolutions to complex problems.
Leverage your knowledge of the multiple delivery methodologies to integrate planning and scheduling across power systems infrastructure and OT/IT systems, including: utility engineering and construction, systems/software delivery lifecycle, and PMBOK PMI.
Support organizational planning, structured project planning and execution, finance and accounting, personnel administration, technology life cycle management, delegation, team building, conflict management, and problem solving.
Identify resource needs, interview for it, and build project teams, identify team roles and responsibilities and align team members, motivate and inspire consulting professionals to meet project objectives, influence cross-functional organizations and business partners.
Be a change advocate and overcoming barriers to change for our clients and team member, navigate/resolve unforeseen challenges, effectively balancing scope, schedule, resources, and quality.
Demonstrate effective business and technical writing and verbal communication skills; developing presentations for reporting to all levels of the client business, from technical practitioners, to management level leadership and sponsorship, to executives.
Manage meetings with defined agendas, effective group participation, time management, and action items tracking.
Develop professional quality work products at each stage of the project management lifecycle, leveraging, building on, and adding to existing Black & Veatch delivery templates, processes, and artifacts for project management and solution delivery.

Master’s Degree
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience
7+ years experience in a business/consulting environment
