Job Description
Purpose & Scope:
Patrols Virginia Hospital Center facilities and property to maintain order, protect personnel, and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc. Enforces Virginia Hospital Center policies and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and employees. Responds to other Security requirements of the VHC campus. Responds to complaints of wrongdoing and prepares incident reports / activity logs.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience:
One year of experience as a security officer is preferred.
One year of significant customer service delivery is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
Virginia DCJS Unarmed Security Officer License is to be obtained within six months.
Valid state driver's license is required.
Clean driving record is required.
Responsibilities:
Responds to requests for an escort.
Makes frequent patrols of the hospital and grounds.
Monitors hallway for wheelchairs, carts, stretchers or medical equipment that appear to be blocking exits.
Makes routine fire extinguisher checks. Ensures that problems with fire extinguishers are documented and reported.
Responds to and assists calls from motorist.
Provides appropriate response to emergency situations or calls for assistance.
Ensures that incident reports are prepared for unusual circumstances, such as theft, vandalism, disorderly conduct/behavior, missing property, suspicious individuals or occurrences, personal or vehicular accident. Carefully includes all medical codes and any occurrences deemed important in incident reports.
Collects, inventories, and releases lost and found items.
Maintains a detailed shift log of all activities during the shift.
Operates hospital vehicle in accordance with state law.
Checks for security and safety problems and takes appropriate action.
Reports on all emergency code calls.
Hourly rate: Starting at $21.69/hr with additional differentials for evenings, overnights and weekends
*Promotion to Security Officer II starting at $24.00/hr possible within 6 months.
*IAHSS Basic Security Officer certification offers an additional $1.00/hr within 6 months.
