As a member the Intellectual Property Counsel (Trademark) team, you’ll ensure that Nestlé’s Brand Intellectual Property assets are strategically developed, appropriately managed, and sufficiently protected to support our business. You’ll work in close collaboration with U.S. based Brand IP team and the Nestlé global Brand IP organization.

  • Work in close collaboration with U.S. business teams, Brand & Marketing Properties team at Nestlé HQ in Vevey, Switzerland and commercial legal departments

  • Act as point of contact for legal and business teams to provide general legal advice on Intellectual Property matters (trademark, copyright, trade dress, design patents, social media, and domain names)

  • Ensure that the Global Brand IP policies and guidelines are consistently applied

  • Manage the IP portfolios (primarily trademark), including:

  • Managing trademark clearance, providing clients with trademark availability and infringement analysis and risk mitigation strategies. Manage budget for trademark clearance

  • Support prosecution of trademark applications and design patents

  • Manage U.S. Trademark Office enforcement/defense in close collaboration with Nestlé USA, Nestlé Purina, and HQ legal teams

  • Review, draft, and manage 3rd party agreements relating to trademarks, copyrights, trade dress, and designs

  • Analyze and advise business on potential trademark and copyright infringement issues within the social media, advertising, and e-commerce context

  • Manage the design patent portfolios, including: attending client meetings to ensure early clearance of proposed packaging and product designsand preparation of design patent applications

  • Develop and implement client education, training, and subject matter guidelines in order to build IP awareness within the organization

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

  • Active bar admission in good standing in the United States

  • 5+ years of professional trademark legal experience

Other

  • Experience working in-house preferred

Position has option of working in either St. Louis, MO or Arlington, VA office locations

The approximate pay range for this position is $160,000.00 to $238,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location.
