What You Will Do :

As an Executive Communications and Speechwriting Senior Consultant , you will provide executive communications and speechwriting support for a senior emergency management client. In this role, the professional will engage with high-level executives at FEMA in developing internal and external communications to support the mission and vision of the agency. Our consulting professionals help our clients identify, evaluate, and solve some of their most complex challenges, assisting them in achieving their strategic goals and objectives to fulfill their mission and comply with Federal laws and regulations. The candidate must be adaptable and able to navigate teams through complex organizational dynamics, while recognizing client needs and challenges as they arise.

Duties will include:

  • Creating and implementing an executive communications strategy that is focused on the goals and objectives of the client.

  • Developing an assessment of current communications products to serve as a baseline for new and future communications products conducive to leadership.

  • Collaborating with leadership to identify communications products that will highlight strategic priorities and mission.

  • Establishing a rapport with the principal to create a style that fits their communications needs.

  • Conducting research for each assignment.

  • Creating a research and storytelling library of resources for the client and other communications professionals within the agency.

  • Writing drafts of speeches, talking points, social media posts, workforce messages, video and media scripts, correspondence, and opinion pieces.

  • Implementing streamlined editing procedures and quality control measures for all communications products.

  • Designing and developing creative, inclusive, and culturally competent graphics to visualize and support messaging.

  • Ensuring adherence to the client’s current process for clearance of communications.

  • Assisting in managing and tracking actions, deliverables, due dates, and packaging for various audiences

  • Shepherding all work products through appropriate review and coordination activities.

  • Conducting after-action reports to assess the success of the speech or written product.

  • Analyzing and coaching to improve speaking style and delivery.

  • Executing project tasks/outputs under the direction of a Project Manager.

  • Delivering quality content for a variety of audiences comfortably and confidently.

  • Thinking strategically, analyzing complex issues, and providing creative solutions to clients.

  • Developing strong client relationships and working collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Prioritizing and completing tasks across a variety of tasks simultaneously.

What You Will Need :

  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust.

  • Bachelor's Degree -OR- FOUR (4) years of relevant experience in lieu of bachelor's degree

  • FIVE (5) or more years of relevant experience (speechwriting, journalism, creative writing, media relations, or other communications-related field).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

What Would Be Nice To Have :

  • Direct experience or familiarity with FEMA, emergency management, or DHS.

  • Experience with storytelling, human-centered design, and behavioral science concepts.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications.

  • Experience supporting Federal/Government clients or another group of high-level principals.

  • Proficient in working within established chains of command and formal /informal networks to complete a job/task.

  • Excels at producing timely products on deadline.

  • Ability to distill complex subject matter into digestible information for the public.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to understand the complexities of FEMA and NFIP.
