SPA assists the Government in developing leading edge technologies to counter WMD in support of CCMDs and transitioning these technologies to services and SOCOM. SPA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat(CIT) and Countering Threat Network (CTN) technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations.

Provides advice and assistance to the chief of the Nuclear Survivability (NTS). Has important technical interface with the client, responsible for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of the work required to satisfy the contract on a range of technical performance including nuclear survivability of DOD weapons systems, EMP hardness, micro-electronic hardening, space effects,satellite survivability, emerging WMD threats, hazard prediction and mitigation, detection, forensics, warfighter assessments and wargaming, survivability issues for US equipment, and IT systems. Applies science to support the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Resolves highly complex technical issues, conducts advanced engineering research, and recommends alterations to development and design activities in order to improve quality of products and/or procedures. Prepares technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions, and conclusions of design and development efforts. Also, brings an understanding of R&D program transition, Integrates and coordinates work within the department and other departments. Responsible for risk management and quality control efforts. Applies technical expertise directly to work efforts.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. 8 years related experience in an engineering or scientific function, including research.

  • Demonstrated success in engineering programs or projects.

  • TS Clearance, and the ability to maintain it; SCI eligible

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related curriculum; EE MS highly preferred

  • 5-8 Years of Project Management Experience.

  • Working knowledge of nuclear weapons effects, their production, weaponization, delivery/employment, and battlefield effects on personnel and equipment.

  • Knowledge of space satellite systems, DOD weapons systems, aircraft survivability, DOD survivability.

  • Experience with Countering Improvised Threats and their networks.

  • Understanding of EMP, nuclear blackout, radiation, radiation transport, nuclear engineering, survivability, weapons effects, CWMD operations, wargaming, military utility assessments, and/or target assessments
