The Team
Our U.S. Planning business has seen consistent growth driven by our clients’ needs to address challenges stemming from population growth, aging infrastructure, climate variability, system reliability and resilience concerns, the need to improve operational efficiency, water quality regulations, and the use of data to help guide decision making. This position represents a strategic business opportunity for Black & Veatch’s Planning team to help the company grow its market share by providing world-class water system hydraulic modeling and planning services.
The Opportunity
Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Practice Leader specializing in water distribution systems modeling and planning.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical solutions and differentiation for the Planning team focused on pressurized water transmission and distribution systems
Help lead the Distribution & Collection System Planning Community of Practice
Use of cutting-edge hydraulic modeling, GIS, and data visualization software to solve client issues
Development and use of automation tools to support system modeling and planning
Lead and mentor other professionals with the use of hydraulic modeling software and other system planning tools
Lead and manage water system master planning projects
Perform and/or manage hydraulic transient (surge) modeling studies
Evaluation of water system demands including non-revenue water, demand management and conservation planning, and future projections
Integration of Condition Assessment and Asset Management data to support replacement & renewal planning
Lead and support business development, proposal, and project interview activities
Leverage and build relationships with key clients and decision makers across North America
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a client-facing role
20+ years of water infrastructure hydraulic modeling and planning project experience
Experience leading project teams and executing water system studies and implementation projects that involve system operations modeling, optimization techniques, risk & resiliency evaluations, capital and life-cycle cost analyses, CIP prioritization, etc.
Proficient with data analyses, analytics, and visualization
Lead and manage technical work on water distribution system modeling and planning studies:
Capital Improvement Program (CIP) planning and optimization
Evaluating potable water distribution system water quality
Planning water distribution systems
Analyzing historical water demands and preparing future water demand projections
AMI data analyses
Pumping and storage capacity analyses
Integrated water resource planning
Financial analyses and projections
Proficient with report writing and PowerPoint presentations
Experience in developing proposals and leading technical discussions during client interviews/projects
Experience and/or familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and software (i.e. ArcGIS)
Familiarity of dynamic data visualization software such as PowerBI and Tableau
Experience and/or familiarity with hydraulic modeling software such as:
WaterGEMS
WaterCAD
InfoWater
InfoWorks WS
EPANet
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
Minimum of 11 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
