At Jacobs our Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Designers work on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or Lead Communications Systems RCDD. This position will play a role in the entire design process, including but not limited to, preliminary assessments, concept creation, developing an appropriate design, problem resolution, drawing and specification production, and customer and vendor accessibility. ESS designers may work on several projects simultaneously and at times may assist as a technical expert on a specialized design.

The ESS Designer will coordinate with other Discipline Leads, Engineers, Architects, BIM/CAD/REVIT staff, and other Consultants to develop construction documents. Designer will act as a consultant and support the contractor, clients, owners, and other stakeholders throughout the various project phases. The focus of this position will be on projects for the federal government with both foreign and domestic project locations.

  • Provide technical design of ESS systems for building projects.

  • Provide team support for the design of related systems for building projects including telecommunications, electronic security, horizontal cabling, intra/inter network backbone, and related technologies.

  • Responsibilities include preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, reports, conducting site visits, reviewing technical documents, and customer interfacing.

  • Will be responsible to complete project assignments with minimal supervision as well as give directions to support staff to complete a project.


Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • At least 5 years’ experience actively designing Electronic Security Systems (ESS)

  • Familiarity and demonstrated knowledge of federal requirements, manufacturer standards, and industry best practices for ESS

  • Basic understanding of fundamental network concepts, bandwidth considerations and how bandwidth varies with video frame rate, resolution and lighting, an understanding of various types of video recording formats such as NVR, NAS, and cloud, an understanding of various camera form factors such as dome, box, bullet, and turret and an understanding of various card access types and formats

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills

  • Self-motivation to coordinate with other disciplines and customers

  • Proficiency in communicating technical information to engineering and related staff

  • Presentation skills to customers

  • US Citizenship

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

  • Experience with Revit

  • Experience with AutoCAD

  • Advanced technical education or coursework

  • IPVM Calculator tool familiarity

  • CCP or PSP Certification or a commitment to become credentialed within (6) months of hire
