MK 34 Gun Weapon System (GWS) Acquisition Systems Engineer

If you are an experienced defense acquisition professional with technical knowledge of the Mk 34 Gun Weapon System (GWS), Mk 45 127mm Naval Gun, and Mk 20 Electro-Optic Sensor System (EOSS) Serco has a great opportunity for you! Support the production, upgrade, ship integration, and lifecycle sustainment of the Navy’s premier main battery naval gun system in support of the Navy program management office customer in Arlington, VA. You will be part of an integrated government and industry technical and acquisition team and make a vital contribution to our national defense by supporting the acquisition of critical capability for our surface Navy and international partners.

In this role you will:

• Apply knowledge and experience in acquisition program management to the Mk 34 GWS program and its component systems throughout its life cycle. Use your mastery of the acquisition process in areas including acquisition policy, acquisition streamlining, and rapid acquisition.

• Use advanced technical concepts and techniques to support the Mk 34 project team in the development of technical products. Perform systems engineering work in design, evaluation, planning, testing, and operation in support of system production, upgrade, ship integration, and lifecycle support.

• Review technical products such as Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and Ordnance Alterations (ORDALTS) for accuracy and completeness and assess them for risk.

• Support critical processes and functions such as Weapon Systems Safety, modeling and simulation, cybersecurity/Risk Management Framework (RMF), and the Systems Engineering “V”.

• Learn and apply advanced concepts such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital and virtual twins, data analytics, etc. in lowering cost, reducing acquisition timelines, and rapidly increasing capability delivered to the Sailor.

• Use your expertise in the Mk 34 GWS or other related gun systems to provide technical support to the program office. Support program office tasks related to gun system production, upgrade, test and evaluation, and sustainment working with Naval field activities, the manufacturer, labs, and Fleet support organizations.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field plus 8 plus years of related experience. Additional experience or detailed expertise may be used in lieu of degree, a higher degree may be used in lieu of experience dependant on related field.

• Active Secret Security Clearance is Required pre hire .

• Knowledge of defense acquisition principles and practices.

• Ability to review technical products such as Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and Ordnance Alterations (ORDALTS) for accuracy, completeness, and risk.

• Advanced internal team communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

• 10% Travel required.

Additional desired experience and skills:

• Although experience with operation or management of the Mk 34 Gun Weapon System or related Naval or joint service gun systems highly desired, specific experience with the gun weapon system isn’t required at time of hire for a candidate with the right technical skills.

• Previous government program office experience, Experience in DoD system production, Test & Evaluation, systems engineering, safety, or similar desired.
